I have looked around the forum but can't find an answer to a simple question. How are the points applied towards a cruise (I do not care if its not the best use of points) I am waitng for a resale for a VWL / 2 bedroom in the 350 pt. range to come up, when it does I will buy, the waiting is killing me !! But I want to be sure that I buy enough points so the 2 years worth will cover a 7 day cruise.
thanks,

Points are applied in the same general way as any other reservation. The beginning date of your cruise is the date of the reservation (this is a little different than a traditional reservation that goes by the checkout day and goes day by day). You can use banked and borrowed points the same way as any other reservation.

If you need more information, please ask. Don't want to overwhelm you with more than you are asking for.

Doctor P, thanks, but what I'm looking for (i did not make it clear), is how do I calculate the value of my DVC points in cruise dollars. for instance if I buy a VWL with 350 points how do i figue what they are worth towards a cruise Cat 6 cabin (rough ballpark figure for say mid May) ?
thanks again

The actual "value" of the points toward a cruise is constantly changing since the cash price of a cruise constantly changes with DCL. In addition, the "Value" of the points can differ between Cabin types on the same cruise.

DVC prenegotiates a point price with DCL a year in advance and the point cost does not change. If you were to tell me the length of the cruise and the traveling parties ages, we can look up next years point cost for a cruise in Mid-May for that cabin and tell you what it will cost you.

Examples for a Mid-May Cruise - 2 Adults - one child 3-5 and one child 6-12 in a Catagory 6

3 day cruise - 308
4 day cruise - 362
7 day Eastern - 540
7 day Western - 590

Go on sites like allseasons travel or icruise or call a travel agent and see what the price would be for what and when you want. Then look at how many points and divide. The value usually runs between $5.50 and $8.20 pp depending on specifics. For a cat 6, you can expect a return of about $5.50-6.50 compared to the early booking discount.

Thanks everybody, that answers my question, I'm calculating if 700 would be enough and it looks as though it is.
Thanks Again,
