My DH and I are looking into DVC and I have one question I have not been able to find info for...

Is there a chart that shows the point value for the cruises?

What about Disney Destinations? Can you trade in DVC points for those as well?

Has anyone stayed at any of the other (non-Disney) resorts they offer? I am anxiously awaiting my packet, but I would like to hear from other people who aren't trying to sell me something. ;)

Thanks!

PS...I see that is more than one question! hehe..sorry! :flower3:

May I jump in here with questions too? My husband and I have been seriously thinking about buying too. We have a question that has not been answered by the advisor. When your timeshare is up what happens? I mean we wouldn't be here but our kids would be, she said Disney has not decided what to do. Is that true?
And can you add points after you purchase your contract? We were thinking about the 350 points, but if the CR goes DVC can we purchase more for there?
Thanks Lynn:confused3

You get the best use of your DVC points by using them to stay at DVC resorts. You can do the DCL for points, but you use a lot of them. Disney hotels (not DVC) use many more points than a one or even a two bedroom villa.

The points required for the DCL is renegotiated each year by DVC. Same with the Disney hotels. So what you are required to use this year, will probably increase next year. DVC villas stay pretty much the same each year, with only slight changes during the year when holidays change (Easter, Thanksgiving).

As for adding points, most members do it at least once or twice. We added on four times. If you add at the same resort, it just increases the number of points you have to use at that resort. If you add on at a different resort, it gives you a seconde home resort. You can use the points for each resort at 11 months or you can combine them at 7 months for any DVC resort.

Most of the DVC resorts end on Jan 31, 2042. No one knows what Disney will do then, tear the older resorts down and rebuild or just end it. If I'm still around, I'll be 92 and won't care anymore.

Thanks for the info Deb!

When you add a second "batch" of points, is there another minimum? What would stop me from buying in at 150 points and then adding 5 points at other resorts so I could book vacations 11 months out at multiple locations?

Thanks!!!

I think the minimum is 25 for add-ons, but the scenario you describe wouldn't work. Lets' say you bought 150 points at BWV, and 25 at VWL. You could book BWV at 11 months with your 150 BWV points, and you could book VWL at 11 months with your 25 VWL points. The points 'belong' to the home resort - you can't book 11 months out at BWV with the VWL points.

You can add on as few as 25 points, but if you need to finance, it must be a minimum of 50 points. We just added on 69 points without financing.
