I'm looking at purchasing a new or resale, but I'm not sure if I want to be soley restricted to DVC resorts. I've tried and tried to locate a conversion cost or a table to show how much it would cost to stay at a non-DVC resort at WDW.

We like to try new resorts and have only repeated resorts a couple times...so I'd hate to get "sick" of the same old resorts at WDW.

Are there any links or websites that provide this info? I tried to contact DVC, but they wanted me to call in and talk to them and I'm affraid if I do...I'll purchase! Any help would be great.

DVC points stay relatively stable from year to year. Other than a few times a year. But the non-DVC venues change all the time and seem to continue to go up each year. It is usually a better deal to use your DVC points at DVC accomodations than non-DVC accomodations. Plus you have to pay a $95 booking fee for each non-DVC venue (other than DL resorts for the time being until the GCal Villas open up). A night in a studio generally uses fewer points than a night in a moderate. And a deluxe would be even more. Add concierge and you are looking at a whole lot of points.

Thanks! We have options and I'm guessing more DVC resorts will be built in the future, but we figured we would stay at a different location each year or every other year....and didn't want the "newness" to wear off. Sounds like we'll be better off doing the DVC resorts and maybe visiting regular resorts occasionally...

Points for non-DVC resorts change. For many of us they are not a cost effective use of points, particularly with the $95 fee added. We stay at non-DVC resorts and pay cash. We pay cash for DCL. And we own MVCI (Marriott) for non-Disney holidays.

You currently have 8 DVC resorts to choose from, and 2 more (possibly 3 if CR is true) are in the works, so while you like to try different resorts, it's not like going back to the same place every year (like a fixed week T/S) where 'newness' can definitely wear off. With DVC it can easily be several years between 'repeating' a resort.

Just to give you an idea, suppose you wanted to stay at the WDW Poly, 'value' season (such as January), garden view. That's 37 points/weeknight, and 67 points/weekend night. Plus you pay a $95 booking fee. Thus a 7-night stay would be 319 points + $95. Those same points (well, 320 points) would get you two full weeks in a 1-B/R villa at OKW during that same January, and there's no $95 fee.

BTW, want to spend a week (7-days) at the Poly during Christmas week, at Concierge, it'll cost you 741 points + $95.00 (as opposed of 296 points for a 1-B/R at OKW for the same week. Or 156 points for a BWV standard studio for the same week)

Hope this helps.

Also if you want to stay at the other resorts, do a split stay. Use the DVC points for Sun-Thurs nights and then do one of the non-DVC resorts for cash on the weekends (keeps the number of points down). Bell services will move your luggage for you, so that's pretty easy.

Here are some sample uses of DVC with points.

The DVC Collection contains all of the DVC resorts. This includes the 6 on-site resorts plus Hilton Head, SC, and Vero Beach, FL. The point charts for each of these can be found on the headers for the DVC DIS site.

The Disney Collection allows you to go on a Disney Cruise, or stay in hotel rooms at WDW, DL, DL-Paris, Tokyo Disney, and HK Disney. There is a $95 fee.

Examples
1 nt. low season at DL-Paris is 21 pts./nt.
1 nt. low season at POR is 16 pts.
1 nt. Holiday Season Royal Palm Club at GF on wknd is 183 pts.
1 nt. low season MK Tower Room at CR, wkdy, is 44 pts.

A 3 day cruise, in an inside state room is 67 pts. PER PERSON.
A 15 day Panama Canal Cruise in a deluxe family stateroom w/Verandah is 675 pts/person (Ouch!)

The Concierge Collection allows you to use your DVC points to stay at very nice upscale hotels. You can reserve by the day. The number of hotels in this collection was cut by more than half from last year. I think these may be fairly easy to reserve.

Current CC hotels are located in San Francisco, Maui, Asheville NC, Coronado CA, Keystone CO, New York City, Washington DC, Lake Tahoe, London, Lake George NY, Stowe VT, and Chicago.
Points range from 19 pts/nt in Keystone CO. to 109 pts. nt. in Maui.
The Grove Park Inn in Asheville NC looks absolutely beautiful and ranges from 25-55 pts./nt.

The World Passport Collection consist of the 500+ interval international (II) resorts plus Club Intrawest and Club Cordial timeshares.

Up until this year, II exchanges were 7 day exchanges. DVC will introduce 3 and 4 day trades this year, but this is TOTALLY NEW. CI & Club Cordial both have nightly trades. You can go about anywhere with II. I haven't ventured into using II yet, so I can't tell you much about it.

I do know that you can go all over Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, US, Canada, Asia, etc. II trades range from 124-160 pts./week for a 1 bedroom and 207-270 pts./week for a 2 bedroom.

The Club Intrawest has resorts in British Columbia, Mexico, and DESTIN, FLORIDA. These are by the night. (Very Reasonable pt. charts.)

Club Cordial has nightly rates in Italy and Austria. (Very Reasonable Pt. charts.)

The Adventurers Collection allows you to take any of the Adventures by Disney, or go into the Rain Forest in Costa Rica or to go on a real African Safari. A trip to China in peak season is 704 pts. / person ((Ouch!))

ONLY buy DVC points planning to use them at DVC resorts. Plan other options such as cash for the non DVC resorts. For other WDW, an AP and other discounts may be the best option. For other timeshare, I'd look elsewhere or pay cash.
