Hi all. We just bought two contracts for BLT on resale. The use years/months are October and December. I used two different brokers. After the fact, I asked one broker if it's important to have the same use years for add on points. She said yes and gave an explanation I don't understand (I'm new to DVC). She cited two membership numbers and Disney having trouble combining the two when trying to pool points to book a trip.

Is it really really bad to have two membership numbers and use months?

TIA

I just bought a second contract..Different UY..

I did lots of research prior to doing this..So I'm gonna say no..But, take that with a grain of salt as I have yet to book a vacation with this.

However, if you are mindful of when to bank your points from each contract (as they will have different times of year to do this) then you should be fine. You will be able to transfer points from one contract to the other (once per year) if you need to. Or you can book some rooms with one contract and some of your rooms with the other contract.

I say if you got a great deal (which we did) then the little bit of hassle is worth it...

Again JMO :)

And Congratulations on your contracts!

There are problems, but they are not insurmountable. You will have different banking/borrowing windows that you'll need to keep track of an maintain. You'll have two membership numbers, and you can not combine points from the two contracts for any one night of a vacation without using your one per year transfer for both contracts.

Also, when booking a trip, with one contract, you can book up to 7 nights when the booking window opens. You may not be able to do that with two memberships...you'll probably have to book a few nights, then call back and book more nights.

Unless you have a specific reason for wanting two use years, it is easier to manage a single use year/membership.

thanks! It didn't seem like a big deal, until the broker told me Disney has trouble booking one ressie with two accounts, "but they're getting better at that". She said they usually will tell the member that instead of say, using one whole account then dipping into the second for 10 needed points, Disney tells the member they need to use a full night's stay worth of points out of the second account. She also told me once a year a member can transfer points to one account. I'm not sure why someone would need to do that.

I freaked out and canceled the 100 add on points. I didn't feel too badly as the agent hadn't even emailed me the contract yet. I don't need complicated, I'm not that smart! Thanks for all your input and I look forward to reading these threads.

We have two OKW contracts, one larger, one smaller, two different UY. Each year I use my once a year transfer to transfer the points from the smaller to the larger. That way, I can use them all as one to book at OKW at 11 months or at another resort at 7 months. Or I can bank the transferred points to the next year if I need to.

But if I bank the smaller contract, I cannot transfer those banked points into my larger contract.

And if I don't transfer the smaller into the larger, I have to use the smaller to book some of my days and the larger to book more of my days. Then I have to link the two reservations. I can't use part of the smaller to book part of a single day and part of the larger to book the rest of that single day. IE, if I need 25 points for a single night, I can't use 10 from the smaller and 15 from the larger to book that single night without transferring.

We have 4 contracts ...3 different use yrs....3 diff resorts...if I had to do it over again...I would have all my OKW pts have the same use yr and contract # intead of two...and all my Vero pts be in the same contract # instead of two....fourth contract is HH ......but only because of the future and my hubbie and dd knowing what to do if for reason I couldn't...can only do one tranfer a yr. But I don't regret the deals I got by buying resale after our first dvc purchase from Disney.
