Hi,

We just started looking at buying a contract through resale. Is there a difference in the use year? Would you go with a March use year or September? Our daughter is currently 2 so we are pretty flexible with vacation scheduling at this point but not too sure about down the road when she starts school.

The two contacts we are specifically looking at are for AKV.. one has a use year of March and has 84 banked 2010 points... the other has a use year of September and has no banked 2010 points. The one with no banked points is about $450 cheaper than the one with banked points.. would the banked points be worth it? :confused3

Thanks so much for your help!! I am totally confused...

If you think you will be going in the summer, you don't want September, March would be better. If you had to cancel a trip, you would have plenty of time with a March use year, not so much with September. September points would have to be banked by April 30, March not until October 31.

Points are generally worth $10 per point, so 84 points would be worth about $840, so $450 for 84 banked points is good.

Use year has nothing to do with when you can go (any time of year) or when you can call to reserve (11 months out at home resort, 7 at others). Its importance is that it simply defines when your annual allotment of points is made, the first day of the use year, and when they expire, the last day of the use year if not banked.

Many advise getting a use year that is shortly before the usual time of year you would go. That has to do with being able to bank points if you have to cancel. If you are likely going to end up going many years during spring break or summer, March would be ideal, Sep would not; if intead, you would mostly go during holiday times in Nov (Thanksgiving) and December/early Jan (Christmas/New Years time), or February (President's Week) Sep would be fine but not March.

Thanks so much! That helps... even though I have no idea if it makes any difference to us right now.. the last three times we were at Disney was April, December and September... :) I think we will try for the March use year.. if that doesn't work out.. we will see about the other..
