Don't ask what made me think of this, but if they did do DVC at the CR, is it possible that the rooms would all be studios? Would that eliminate the need to start from the ground up?

I suppose anything is possible, but that would be a major deviation from all past DVC construction and timeshare industry standards. I do know that DVC, at least at one time, had considered/discussed the possibility of using one of the incompleted Pop Century buildings as a DVC resort with a different room configuration.

While an all-studios-renovation-of-an-existing-structure resort would be a major change for DVC (other timeshares have certainly renovated old buildings), it would be consistent with Disney's reputation for innovation. At one time DVC has announced a downtown Manhattan resort- which would certainly have been new villas in an existing structure.

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, develops from the long-rumored CR/DVC relationship.

Stay Tuned! :)

Wow. I didn't know they were thinking of using one of the incomplete POP buildings. That would sure be different.

Looking forward to seeing what actually happens. Should be a lot of fun.

Ewww. For me to stay there, rooms would have to be 1 or 0 points per night.

I posted about this at some point, too, Rwethereyet. Something like the Inn rooms at Vero Beach.

I agree it will be fun to see what if anything evolves.

And I sure do love these rumor threads!

LOL- I don't know about 0 points per night, but I know they would have been offered at a bargain compared to all of the other resorts.

The purchase price would have been reduced and the point costs would also be discounted. I don't what changes if any would have been made in the accommodations (all Studios does seem familiar though).

To my knowledge, nothing has come from this concept (and I don't really expect to see anything like that). I think that IF the points were discounted for purchase, they would cause problems being used at other resorts - like a devaluation. I suppose they could sell them at the same rate as other current resorts, but reduce the initial buy-in minimum to 75 or some such number for that resort alone.

It seems to me if they had a cheaper per point buy in for something like that, there would be difficulty with exchanging inside the system too,

hey I would add on there.

My nephew has used the WWoS many times for baseball.

of course at 17 - those times I though were gone - no - he is playing there in Oct.

I would love a DVC pop century resort that would be awesome for myself and my family. Same with DVC Coronado that would be another must have resort for us LOL. I can't understand why people hate these locations so much they are just great fun resorts.

This may be a good thread to report one of the rumors I heard on my last trip. Though I must admit I do not really buy it. The rumor is that DVC will convert the POFQ.

I would not put much stock in this as I only heard it from one source and I could get no verification. But, if the PC is being thrown around then why not the POFQ.

Personally, I think this is a distinct possibility. Certainly plenty of studios rent out. They could create connecting studios, which may work out nicely for many families.

That is an excellent point. We've never stayed at the CR but if it is like the Polynesian there are likely many rooms with connecting doors. And I would imagin that since the resorts were built at the same time, the # of connecting rooms would be similar.

yes, but I would think the guides would like some 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom - on the basis more people would buy if they were available.

now they don't have to have alot of the 1or 2 bedroom - definitely more studios. but enough to say 'yes' they have 1 or 2 bedrooms.

oh on the PC i had heard that Disney was considering making them family suites (like they are now with the All Star music).

I guess this rumor isn't true!

LOL, it could be a new version of DVC. DVC-Lite. Less expensive to buy into, less points per night. No kitchenette but you can go to the food court and use their facilities to make your own meals.

I think our speuclation was based on the premise that the current building could be converted to all studios or Inn rooms without demolishing the building. To make 1 & 2 BR, don't you think they would need to start over? I'm not sure of course but it would seem hard to convert the present buildings into those kind of rooms? :confused3

Not to say I wouldn't personally prefer 1 & 2 BR units. In fact, if it is all studios or Inn rooms, I rather doubt we would buy. We'd most likely continue to pay as we go for part of our vacations and stay at the Polynesian for those nights. But that is just us of course.

What are the suites like at All Star Music?

The current rumor is that the N. Wing will be demolished and a 4 or 5 story DVC put in its place. There is also suppose be a walkway connecting it to the tower.

Only time will tell.

I used to make jokes about a "DVC Value resort" for 4 points a nights. I haven't heard any recent rumors, reliable or otherwise, about PC. But who knows?

If CR or PC is directly converted to studios, they will be the largest studios built thus far at WDW. Depending on who you believe, CR rooms are somewhere betweem 394 and 430 sq ft. At PC, they'd have to combine two of the 260 sq ft rooms into one studio (ripping out the wall of course).

I don't think it will happen at CR. I'll bet on demolition and build from scratch.

Anyone know what is happening with the legendary years at the PC?

For all I do not see this happening (then again you never know), a 'DVC Lite' may not be a bad idea. Charge the same amount per point, but require less points for a room and lower the minimum number of points one can buy (150 if you want DVC regular and 75 for DVC lite).

The 'DVC Lite' would be like the value resorts, but without the tackiness. Sort of a cross between a value and a moderate.

This may actually be a good way to expand the market.

Maybe then we can have 'DVC Deluxe'. Similar to a regular DVC, but even more upscale, and would include concierge lounges and services.
