DVC Check in Tactics

Thanks Sandy (InstImpres) for the great chart. I have printed it out and it will help me when we go to the VWL this summer. Are there really that few HC rooms there? Have you listed only studios because those are the ones "most rearranged" when HC? Thanks for your work compiling!

Definetly not that few handicapped rooms. MS will not give out any of this type of info. The "new summary page" is compiled off the room reports sent to me.

You'll see on the bottom of the summary it states "It is information that has been made available but should not be considered all inclusive."

The help from this is minimal as you could get a room not on the sheet and find it handicapped (since no one has reported on room type yet) but if you get a number on the sheet you are guaranteed of that fact.

I'm hoping people continue to send in room reports and I will continue to update the master gris as well as this summary. I would think within another year or so there should be a small percentage of rooms without any info.

Sandy, thanks - -I will continue to use your valuable info and try to remember that after unpacking, one of the first things I should do is report back to you. Knowledge is power!

Please re-list the Email address to where we send you reports.

Thanks.

DVC knows they have us and they know we will keep coming back no matter what view we get. I have always been a strong believer in the rooms should be identified as either DVC or cash.

Well, they shouldn't be so sure. In the short run, their philosophy may prove profitable, but I believe they'll lose out long-term. Having my kids' interest as a hook might keep us in for another few years. Then again, it may not. The negative may outweigh the positive.

As for cash or DVC, in their system, the rooms are identified that way...at least they were back in '95. When I inquired at OKW, they were able to tell me how many rooms in a particular building were occupied by members vs. nonmembers. Now, they probably don't release that type of information.

For an upcoming trip, we've rented a week at the Marriott Grand Vista from an owner. In paying attention to some threads dealing with that resort, I found it interesting that someone stated the best building location was usually filled by owners!!! And I thought "Way to go Marriott!!!"

I wish you better luck with your future room locations!
:)

I think they should go back to pre-assigning rooms by reservation date, that only seems fair. If someone has no requests, then don't pre-assign those and leave them open to move people around if they get in early and want an open room. As for cash rooms, CRO's website shows them as "parking lot views" so I don't think a cash room should get a boardwalk view unless all the DVC members have been accomodated (this is less likely to happen now with the boardwalk view category).

When we get to the hotel, we check in. If the room is not ready, we pleasantly state our most important request, non-smoking. I also mention that if they have something with a decent view, I'd love it.

I really can't say that I have ever had a bad view. Some were nicer than others over the years, but we've had none that I would call terrible.

Until I started reading these boards it never occured to me to worry about what view my room had or whether I would get a HA room or not. The only request on my reservation was NS. And in all my trips to Disney I was never disappointed about the room I was assigned. Then this past September when we checked in at BWV the CM at the front desk showed me the resort map and where the room we were being assigned was located and that it had a tree blocking the view and I found myself getting aggitated and my DH said "why are you worried about a tree when you never cared what room we were in before" . That is when I realized that reading all these posts about room views is hazardous to your vacation. In all our previous trips, we always had something positive about our room location: this room is close to the pond and the stairs, this room is close to community hall, this room is close to the elevators. My conclusion is why fixate on the negative and ruin your vacation when there is aways something positive about your room to fixate on and make your vacation wonderful. :)

P.S.-- Last July on our DCL cruise (which we booked with points) we upgraded our cabin at the terminal. They failed to tell us that our upgrade was to a HA room with no tub. Well, we dealt with no tub as best we could and were the envy of all our friends because we had the biggest cabin and biggest verandah. The closet was bigger than my one at home.

I usually request non smoking and high floor. I have been given a first floor room twice (once at BCV and then BWV) I was able to get both of them changed, but I make sure I always ask what floor I am on before I leave the front desk. This is when I check in before the room is ready and they don't tell you the room #.

Also if we are in a studio, I will make sure it is not HC. If we are in a 1 bedroom it does not matter if we get HC or not - because it will still have the jacuzzi tub.

View is very important to me. I will definately take a HC room on a high floor over a room on the first floor.

Lexxiefern your post made me smile because it goes to show that everyone's "favorites" are different. I love ground floor because I kind of hate elevators. I'd rather look at the dumpster than be put into a HC studio, although I'd prefer neither!

This is why I think they should continue to accept requests. I figure that if I don't ask, how can they even TRY to accomodate me? I also feel that in a small percentage of cases, they are trying to "sell an inferior product" and I don't want to pay a premium and be the one stuck with the dumpster view room. Points aren't cheap. I'm not too fussy but I draw the line at the dumpster view or a HC room with no tub and no closet (even Motel 6 has those!)

To klcason, and anyone else who's interested, I've been keeping the room reports on OKW (as well as HH), but only for about 1 1/2 months so I don't have much data yet. So far I only have about 35 room reports, of their about 700 rooms, and the only one I know of that's HA is a 1 BR, 3415. But I'm sure there's more! Any reports out there?

Do you have a chart for OKW?

Kayla

Sorry I don't but Simba's Mom has started one. I will (if it's ok with her) checkin to get the HA info and add it to the summary sheet I creted for those that prefer that method and might be resort hopping during their stay.
