Could someone please confirm that CM and their immediate family can get a 25% discount when buying DVC points? Thanks!

I added 100 points last year not knowing about the discount (my brother works at Pixar), you don't suppose they'd do a refund of $1000 or so do you? I'm mad at myself :headache: for not inquiring about a discount but to tell you the truth, I would never think they'd extend it to family members. That's a lot of people!

I seriously doubt you could get your brother's discount but I could be wrong. Immediate family is usually considered husband, wife and siblings for legal purposes.

It goes to parents (us:banana: ) and step-parents, brothers, sisters, children, etc.. I don't have the document with me right now, but we had to sign a CM agreement along with our son and it spells out the relationships. Besides, a brother is a sibling.

I was just going to respond to that and then you did ;) He IS my brother! I want to buy more points before they lessen the % discount like I've read on these boards.

We bought our first 310 points on my brother's discount. He was no longer a CM when we bought out 160 pts at SSR, so we had to pay full price (what a rat!)

Any CMs want to adopt a daughter/sister before GCV starts selling? I wish we could have a discount like that.

Go for the add on!

For how long have the CMs had this discount available to them?

Seems it's been around for awhile. I wanted to mention that the 25% discount was/is for WDW CMs (and their immediate family). All other CMs of the TWDC generally only get 15%. We bought in while hubby was still a CM for the Disney Catalog. Our guide originally told us we qualified for the 25% discount, but later it was changed after she checked the financial department and came back and said non-WDW CMs only got the 15% off. We bought in July 2005. We have WDW CM friends who used their discount for family and have mentioned that when a WDW CM uses their discount, they are also listed on the contract with the family member. So you need to consider this before using a family member's discount and if you want the CMs name on the contract with you.

Last April we picked up 300 AKL points while my daughter was doing the Disney College Program. We got the $ 8.00 off then the 25 % off.

Only stipulation if you ever sell your points they can only be sold back to DVC and for the price you paid.

I was thinking there were additional rental limitations as well, maybe that's just for current employees.

Do not recall any limitations other than selling them back to DVC. We were told that the points are to be treated as regular points.

Wow! 25% on top of the $8 discount! That is a great discount!!

We bought our first contract in February of 1994 and got my brother's CM discount, so it has been at least that long. I would guess the CM discount has been available since the inception of DVC

Which is, actually, not a bad thing necessarily. You won't make money, but you won't lose any, either (other than the opportunity cost of the money that's tied up in the meantime).

Our son works at DLR, not WDW. What we got was 25% off the top, THEN the $ 8.00 off per point for our AKV purchase.

Our son's name is NOT on our contract, but on a separate CM agreement that stipulates that if we choose to sell, we will sell it back to DVD for what we paid. No issue there. We bought it to use it, not to sell it.

Also, the CM discounts is going away (or at the very least reduced) well before GCV go on sale. Bummer for us because we plan to buy GCV.

It's actually a little more complicated -- I believe the 25 percent discount is for Orlando-based Walt Disney World cast members. Cast members elsewhere and in different parts of the company get 15 percent. You do get whatever other discounts they are offering, too -- and you can also buy fewer initial points. You are also prohibited from renting your points while you are still employed by the company (but you can make reservations for friends and family if you are NOT renting those points to them).

You are correct . I checked my paper work last night. Got the 25% first than the additional $ 8.00 off.
