DVC Cast Member discount

It's actually a little more complicated -- I believe the 25 percent discount is for Orlando-based Walt Disney World cast members. Cast members elsewhere and in different parts of the company get 15 percent. You do get whatever other discounts they are offering, too -- and you can also buy fewer initial points. You are also prohibited from renting your points while you are still employed by the company (but you can make reservations for friends and family if you are NOT renting those points to them).

My guide told me yesterday that I cannot get the developer points for AKV but can get the 15% and $8 off per point. Not the $500 card either for the purchase of SSR. He also told me that they are getting hourly reports as to the points remaining in SSR.

As I stated, our son works for DL, the original theme park and not for WDW and we got the 25% discount.

We were thrilled with the discount and added more points before we even closed on the original.

I stand corrected!

Only stipulation if you ever sell your points they can only be sold back to DVC and for the price you paid.

Actually, Disney has to be given the option first to buy back at the price paid, but if they choose not to exercise that option, you can then sell on the open market.

You also cannot rent points or the CM risks disciplinary action. If you bought through a CPer, it is not too much of a deterrent, I suppose.

Can anyone confirm that CM DO NOT get the developer points at AKV or the $500 card at SSR? My guide told me that I can get the $8 or $10 off but not these other things mentioned above. Thanks!

That's what we were told. CM discount plus $$ off point cost, but no other incentive like gift card or developer points.

That is what I understand too. The good thing is the order is correct: 25% and then $8.00. That works to your advantage. Net is $70pp.

I wish one of my kids worked at Disney!

I got 15% instead of 25% -- I work for a different part of the company. But I got developer points.

That's strange. Why is my guide saying that I don't get developer points or the $500 Disney gift card?:confused3

It could be something that changes with time, I suppose. Also, I bought AKL and not SSR so there could be differences with that, too. But I haven't stayed on my own points yet -- the only trips I've taken have been covered by the developer's points I got when I bought in last year.

We bought additional points for OKW back in 1993 when I worked at the Disney Store in California for only a few weeks. I was hired for the Christmas season and worked less than 10 hours a week for no more than 4 weeks and then was let go because it was slow. As I recall, I got 35% off the add-on points at OKW. I was told the discount was a one-time discount and if I had been a cast member when we first bought and had used the discount that there would be no discount on add-on points. The store also extended my CM card for a 25% discount at the parks for the next year.
When I figure out how many hours I really worked and the thousands of dollars I saved with the discounts, it made it all the more tolerable having been told by my 19 year :worship: "supervisor" that plush mountain needed to be fixed again.

When my daughter did the college program last spring she worked the front desk at OKW and SS. Her last few weeks she worked at AKL.
Her ID and paycheck were From DVC. Maybe thats why we got 25% instead of 15% ?

She is going back again this June for a six month internship with the Wedding Planing division of WDW. Did not know she was only able to do a one time
DVC discount buy in. Not that we will be adding on any more points anyway
have enough points already. We have 1500

We just bought last Thursday and the thing that put it over the top for us was getting my wifes nephew's 25% CM discount. We had to put him on the deed, photo copy his I.D. and fax it in. We bought 200pts. I'll thank him for the $5200 gift when I see him in a few weeks!!

I have been a DVC member for 5 years now, and we now have nearly 600 points, and we plan on using them all each year when my son gets a bit older, but right now, we can't, so we have been, lets say offering them to friends for money.

Does anyone know of anyone getting in trouble with DVC for this? I don't want to get my sister in trouble, do they warn you? Giving them to friends and coworkers helps us offset the cost for now, until my son is older and we can go to Hawaii, Adventures by Disney, etc.....

Looking for some insight, maybe from a DVC cast member that could let me know if I am playing with fire. Thanks!

If you are a CM and are renting your points you are taking some risk, esp if you received the CM discount. You should likely go back and review your paperwork to see what you signed up for. Even if the rules were later amended, they could still apply retroactively to CM who are also DVC members. Having said that, I think the risk is very low if you're only renting to family/friends, esp since you're likely not getting market value. These thoughts apply to non DVC CM, for DVC CM, they will be held to a much higher standard both due to what they should know and to the possibility that there could be a conflict of interest as well as the possibility that they could work the system (inappropriately) to get reservations before other members.

I don't think the ROFR requirement mentioned earlier in this thread (can only sell back for what you paid) would apply unless you signed up for that option in writing legally. I wonder if that requirement was in place 5 years ago but I'm sure someone will know for certain. Interesting dilemma though given that in some cases it's still higher than the market value. What if someone who had this requirement went to sell, I wonder DVD would be required to buy it back at that price or if it's simply their (DVD's) choice as someone else suggests earlier in this thread.
