what is an "associate member"?

Is this the other person on the deed? Like a spouse?

A "Purchaser" or "Additional Purchaser" is a person that is named on the deed of the Ownership Interest. Purchasers are also referred to as Club Members. The Primary Purchaser is the first person named on the deed. While a reservation confirmation is normally mailed to the Primary Purchaser, any Club Member may request to receive the reservation confirmation instead of the Primary Purchaser. Additionally, all financial information pertaining to the ownership interest, including Annual Dues Statements and Form 1098 (reporting mortgage interest), will be mailed to the Primary Purchaser. To designate a different Primary Purchaser to receive the financial information mailings, a request must be submitted in writing to Membership Administration and must be signed by all Purchasers. All Purchasers have equal ownership rights and all Purchasers receive Member Cards.

An "Associate" is a person named by the Purchaser or Purchasers who is only authorized to make reservations using the Club Member's Home Resort Vacation Points. Associates do not receive Member Cards and are not entitled to the benefits and privileges that are available to a Club Member. In addition, Associates may not access financial information related to the Annual Dues and/or loan pertaining to the Club Member's Ownership Interest.

Even though they have DVC and AP sliders, you have to have the cards to get discounts. Otherwise, people would "lend" their sliders to others to get discounts.

A plastic or rubber thing that has a slit that you slide the MagicBand through.

Thanks to Pamjr for the useful info on replacement cards. I have a geek confession to make though: I keep my DVC card in my wallet at all times.
You know, just in case. Like maybe I run out to buy some beer and decide to go to the airport and hop a flight to Orlando on a whim. It could happen.
