DVC backlash!?? tell me what's good about disney!

I am sorry that friends would treat your family like that. In life many things are not for everyone. If the world had more tolerance of the differences in people’s tastes or lifestyles, the world would be a better place. As we try and teach our children, I would recommend doing your best to rise above it all and take the high road. It is hard to do.

All that said we have had some family and friends react negatively for different reasons. Often we hear negative comments. Fortunately, we have not had so much direct conflict as you have had. It is a bummer to have people we know express negative views about DVC or Disney as we enjoy it so much. I usually comment back that I understand that Disney might not be for them and that is ok. I then comment on the things I enjoy about Disney. I find it a place to enjoy my family as the whole place and experience is about family. There is something for everyone.

To reply to your friends I would say: Yes it can be commercial, but you can enjoy Disney from a low to a high level of commercial. For example you can bring in your own food. Your local movie theater won’t let you bring in your own food and drink unless you sneak it in. You don’t have buy anything extra if you don’t want to.

It is very nice to know there are people out there who value their family time and traditions at Disney. We have quite a few friends who happen to be big Disney people too. So hang in there and remember there are fellow Disney loving people out there.
Given what's been posted, these are not friends but acquaintances best to be avoided. Personally I'd just let them know that they don't have to agree but their approach was offensive and a personal attack, then walk away. My experience with such people in the past is they will avoid you and likely not allow their children to interest with those they see as evil. Then again I'd likely attend any meetings they'd likely be at with Disney and DVC apparel prominently displayed because I can't help myself. Kind of like wearing my Timesshare Users Group T shirt to a timeshare presentation.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Bet they all just love to see you!

These friends must be the life of the party; sound like borish, narrow-minded snobs. They just have limited capacity for tolerance of others' views. Don't let them take up space in your head rent free. As a compassionate man once said "pity the fool", for they know not what they know. Disney is a Fortune 500 company, that employs 10's of thousands directly, and 100's of thousands indirectly here in the USA and worldwide; is a green industry, with a topnotched product, that millions of people have elected to support, voluntarily; a responsible, charitable free enterprise. Picture a world without Disney. It would be as dull as your friends' lives sound.

Actually it can be a good conversation piece. It likely makes little difference overall other than to make me feel good since they quickly figure out I generally know more than they do about timeshares, often about their own product.

Wow this thread is still going!

Let me update... I'm totally over it, and not in contact with them, but I will see them next week at our meeting. It's just a playday at the park, so I'm sure it will be fine, I can have plenty of space.

I'm TOTALLY wearing disney clothing, though!! Thank you for that great idea!! I have a great mickey t-shirt... and man... I really need to get a big giant disney hat or something! That's just toooooo funny!! :rotfl2:

I'm not going to post the blog though, that's going too far in my opinion, and doing exactly what I didn't like that they did to me. Sorry! I'm not even sure if they've changed it at this point, or what. I'm steering clear of the whole mess! I'm just glad I'm not like them!

Again, thank you all for your posts- it's been a great thread and every post has been appreciated by me and DH! Thank you!

One last thing....

Our oldest daughter tells people the main reason we home school is so we can go to Disney in September and get cheap rates on DCL.

:lmao::lmao: Too funny! I can imagine my children saying something like that in a few years!

OMG! Who are they to "save the world from evil". A friend would never act like that. Now a jerk would! At least you know their level of tolerance for others feelings or beliefs. Maybe someone is a little jealous! Can you imagine if you really did something off the wall?

Well I bet in September you will be having fun---while someone else will not be.

I really feel bad for you-I would never want to speak to these people ever again.

I can tell you this I would rather be your children than theirs!!

Hi,

"Disney is the quasi religion of american consumerism and our family stays clear of all thing disney",

At the next meeting you go to, be sure to announce to the room in general,"the family that supports the quasi religion of american consumerism is here, and we'll be thinking about you when we sell our souls to the devil in the Florida sunshine!"

Since this is probably a really big deal in your group right now, you need to go in to the meetings, saying yeah, that's us, the supporters of consumerism every time we enjoy ourselves in Florida. You will be surprised how fast everyone drops the subject when you freely admit to everything those "friends" said, but you will be in all that Florida sunshine thinking of them! They will hate that, because they are just jealous of all the vacations you get to take.

We did this when we bought our contract back in 1997, and eventually every one of those negative people ended up buying their own contracts at Disney or some other timeshare, so I ended up getting the last laugh!:lmao:
