We are thinking about using our DVC points August 18-22 of 2009. Is that a busy time? What resorts do you think we will be able to get into?

In our experience, August is still really busy, but starts to slow down. We haven't traveled that late in the summer, but we are staying at WDW Aug 9 - 14 this year. I called at the end of March to make reservations for a 1-BR, and I basically could pick from any resort I wanted with the exception of AKV. I only asked about a Sav view, so I may have had other options had I asked. I reserved a 1-BR at VWL and am on a wait list for AKV Sav view. Either way, I am pleased at punch, as I've never stayed at either resort and can't wait! :woohoo:

We have visited WDW at that time twice-- in 2006 and 2007-- and have reservations for this August.

The crowd levels are acceptable to us. We find that non-FP rides in the MK generally have waits of 30 mins or less. Our rule is to wait no more than 20 minutes so we are still very strategic on when to ride, when it makes sense to check back later, etc., but we can do everything we want to do and more.

In our experience, it is a slow time to visit. Many school districts (especially in the South) are back in session. It is still very humid and hurricanes are always a concern. I would think the weekends would still be busy, though.

We go every year at this time. Historically this has been a great time crowd wise, but the last few years not so much. Still WAY less crowded than the popular times, but as has been mentioned elsewhere even the slow times are busier now.

We will be there a few days before your dates.

That's me waitlisted for a Grand Villa!

We're(10 of us) are waitlisted for a GV at SSR
week of 8/16-8/23...wasn't able to get that as yet but,
after talking to MS(memberservices)the day I booked,
availability at SSR & OKW was open!
We ended up getting one 2-bdrm & one studio for
the time being at SSR...there are openings for one & two bdrms
as are with studios @ SSR & OKW...but!, that scenerio could
change with the wind! No joke!
Call MS...get a reservation @ (???) ask to be waitlisted
if what you exactly want isn't available...and either wait
and check the DVC site for a change to your booking and/or
call MS every day and ask.
Anything is possible...good luck...and say Hi to the Mouse
for us!
:surfweb: Still waiting...need more coffee...must stay awake!

I would love to hear more opinions about this timeframe- we are planning on going 3rd week of Aug. of 2009.:goodvibes

August is hot, humid and sticky! If you can stand the heat and the daily thunderstorm downpours, it's not too bad. The crowds in Aug. have increased over the past couple of years, but they aren't bad compared to many other times of year. Last Aug. was the busiest we've seen it that time of year ever and it still wasn't that busy. We still never waited more than 20 minutes for anything.

We LOVE to go in August....we spend our mornings at a park and leave by noon to have lunch and lay around the pool !!! We will be going back this August for 4 nights at VBR, 3 nights at OKW and 4 nights at BCV. Almost all Florida and Georgia public schools seem to resume around the 2nd week of August.

We have been several times in late August (2004, 2005, 2006). The first year we went, it wasn't that crowded at all. The past few times, it has been increasingly more crowded....but still manageable. The heat is extreme - we often do what a PP said. Do the parks in the early morning, pool and nap in the afternoon, and then maybe go back at night. :thumbsup2
