DVC AP renewal

I currently have a Premium Annual Pass that will expire at the end of October 2012. My MIL is taking our family in January 2013 and my husband and I might go for our anniversary in October 2013. It might make sense for hubby and I to renew our passes, rather than getting regular PH tickets for two upcoming trips, and just pay MIL the difference. What is the DVC cost of the AP renewal? Would probably just get the regular AP this time. And when would I have to renew? Thanks for any help, tried searching, but my brain is on overload right now!

Can you pay the renewal price and downgrade the pass at the same time, or is the renewal only available for the same level or higher?

You can upgrade/downgrade during the renewal and you will pay the renewal rate for the pass being issued.
