DVC AP for college son

OK, I have a simple question and the more I over-think it, the more confused I get. My college aged son will be in WDW several times this year, so a DVC AP seems logical for him to buy.

If we contact DVC to get an AP voucher (he is listed as an associate member) he will not be able to activate it because he doesn't have a DVC membership card. DVC told me that they will only issue DVC membership cards to contract owners, and that as a DVC associate member, he can only make ressies and has no benefits.

I realize that they may not ask for the membership card, but if they do...he's sunk!
Anyone else run into this? Yes, his official residence is our home address.

As long as he has a photo ID with the same address you, he should be able to exchange the voucher for the DVC pass. If you will not be with him when he needs to do the exchange, just let him have the membership card for that trip. He can explain (if asked) that the membership card belongs to his parents and that he lives with you (as the photo ID verifies).

They definitely need the member number to process the AP. So either give him the card or make a copy of it.

Am happy to send him with the membership ID card, just apprehensive as to whether or not they'd honor it when we are not with him. It was so simple when he'd vacation with us....now he's grown and wants to go to WDW without his parents! Imagine that!

I'll make sure he has a 'paper trail' for membership and residence purposes.

I went to guest relations at the International Gateway to purchase my AP. The guy working gave me the discount. I didn't have to show him anything. You were very lucky. When we got ours last week, we all had to show our driver's licenses and our DVC member ID.

Yep, you were lucky schoen. Last year I forgot my Member ID card and the ticket window had to call Member Services to comfirm my membership. Took a loonnngggg time. I had my Will Call voucher and drivers license but she wanted my DVC card.

That is how it's been everytime we get one or renew it. They need to see that blue member card and DL. Been getting the discount for 5 years now and always have to have my blue card with me, even when I pick them up for the grandkids.

I ran into trouble with this a couple of years ago. I was at Guest Services for at least 30 minutes because I was only an associate member and didn't have the member card on me. I now bring it with me. also, last year when I renewed my AP over the phone I told them what had happened to me the year before. I believe I was given 2 confirmation codes. One for the Ap itself and another so I could pick it up. i'm not sure if this is b/c the membership services person put a "note" into the computer or if this is what they were doing at the time.

No he did not do the right thing. Selling a discounted AP to someone without identification is most likely grounds for dismissal for the CM. Especially since you were not eligible for the discount to begin with.

I'm surprised he didn't have to key in the membership #. When I picked up my renewal last December at the IG, the cm made a keying error when entering the member # and had to do it again.

We are not dvc members yet but my sister is. One year she gave us some of her points to use as they were not going that year. We are hooked on staying at a dvc resort now. Anyway just having the same last name as her we were able to get her discounts. They never questioned anything.

When I purchased DVC I made my adult daughter an owner on my contract. She does not live in my home. Actually when we get mail from DVC, she gets everything I get to her home address (planner, promotions, even 15 yr. lithograph). I knew for her to get the same perks for herself and her family she would have to be an owner.
