DVC AP discount ~ online or at guest services?

Hi, I hope this is the right spot to ask this ~

We have APs that expire in 2 months. We bought them regularly, no discount. Since we bought them, we have become DVC members, and I am wondering if we could just renew the ones we have using the DVC discount, or if we'd have to buy brand new ones at the discounted rate.

Also, would we be able to do that online/through snail mail, or would it have to be done in person?

We're going to WDW next week (paying OOP not using points ~ our points ressie is in December), and I am wondering if I should (or if we could) renew out APs a little early, using the discount, if it needs to be done in person.

Thanks :)

If your next trip to WDW after your passes expire is not until Dec, I'd let them expire and purchase new DVC discounted APs then. If you renew now, you will only have have about 4 months to use the new passes.

If I understand, your current passes expire in May, so they would be fine for your trip next week.

Then your next trip isn't until December?

It really makes more sense to get all new passes in December, rather than try to renew. Their isn't that much of a price difference between renewal and a new pass to justify losing 6 months of usage from May to December.

To answer the OP question. You can use any renewal program to renew any AP. We started out with "Free" APs from having our wedding at Disney, it's the wedding planners gift to the couple. Then we renewed those at the DVC rate.

And my in-laws renewed there DVC APs with FL APs (which no-longer seem to have any blackout dates.)

But with all that said,

An AP (@DVC discount) costs 392.99/yr (or 32.75/mo) the renewal is 345.06/yr (or 28.76/mo). So if you aren't going to use it for 2 months (more like 7 weeks) after you renew it, it's break even to buy a new one. At ~6 months, it's far more worth it to let it expire and buy a new one. DVC APs become attractive at ~7 days, vs, MYW/Park Hopper/No Expire.
