DVC Annual passes

I wonder if anyone can help with the question of annual passes. I did email Disney but got a standard reply that did not answer my question. I understand you can renew an existing annual pass (we are from Scotland so not able to come over until December - hopefully!). I wanted to know if you renew what is the start date of the pass - when you renew or first use date? I also asked if we don't renew will they still be selling DVC annual passes so that if we let them lapse can we buy a new one before our December visit. Two Platinum passes is a lot of money to be shelling out if we can't use the passes. Any info is much appreciated.

It renews whenever the date expires on your current AP.

We are in the same situation. Ours is due to expires soon. Many times, if my next visit is at least 6 months down the road, I will just buy us a new AP. Now they are not selling any. We have reservations for November so I bought for now 7 day hopper tickets (ouch) so I can book us park reservations. If they sell new APs before our November trip, I can get three trips out of it. If I renew soon, I can get two.

Not sure what I will do. I have until April to decide. DH says to just renew .
