DVC Annual Pass Discount - any news?

The DVC annual meeting was held yesterday and DVC VP Ken Potrock made a lot of vague comments about their attempts to introduce new dining, shopping and ticket discounts. But no specifics were revealed.

That would have been the perfect forum to make such an announcement--a forum they've used successfully in the past. Yesterday Potrock could only say "stay tuned." Interpret that however you wish.

I have been waiting to see if there is any announcement. My DH and I both have AP's but our two DD's do not. We have a trip coming in March and would like to get AP's for them. But, I don't want to wait too long because our FP plus window will be coming up in less than a month. If there is no announcement - I will probably just order them and get a will call number. Can that be linked to my MDE account so that I can get FP plus for them too or do I have to wait until we arrive and their AP's are activated?

I had to laugh or chuckle at that last sentence...'It saved us a lot of money'..

Purchased the DVC AP and at the end of January 2013..we will have made 3 trips from the burbs of Chicago to the World...Twice just DH and I and one of the trips it was DDL,son & two teen GS....

My DH ask me not to purchase another DVC AP as he thinks it cost him a TON of money!!

Well...it's been two weeks since the last post. Nothing?? Are they going to make us wait much longer to find out:confused3

You guys sound disappointed and like you're still expecting this.

This really surprises me. I for one, would be shocked if they do it again, at least anywhere in the near future. Somebody had some YE numbers to hit (likely P&R) and this offer helped them assure that it happened. Seems to be end of story to me.

I wasn't bitter. I already had APs that expired the following June so the offer wouldn't have done any good for me. I'm still not bitter, and I'm not expecting a repeat, yet I seem to be the only one. I'm not sure I can figure out why everyone seems to be expecting and feels somehow entitled to this.

I'd like to see it too, but I'd be willing to bet an inordinate amount of money that it doesn't happen, and I've said that all along. I'm just reiterating it.

We're a captive audience. The most captive Disney/WDW has. We can help them make numbers on things when they need to use us for that. That's what the last promo was, IMO. They'll do it again, for something, at some future date, whether it be discounts on Lion King tickets on Broadway (for a show that's tailing off at some future date) or dining discounts once free dining goes away in order to get restaurant numbers up again. That's what they do with us, folks. That's what we're good for!

Please tell me why the sense of entitlement to this hefty AP discount price you guys are expecting and why everyone seems so convinced that it's not a matter of "if" but "when."

I'm all ears. :)

That doesn't take into account the unique nature of DVC. After buying into the program, owners are all but obligated to spend additional dollars on park tickets. Sure there are some people who bought PAPs specifically because of the offer. But did those additional purchases more than offset spending by those who would have otherwise paid higher prices?

If Disney truly believed they benefitted from ticketing discounts, we'd see a lot more of them. Not just for DVC members but the general public.

In reality, Disney has VERY little track record for discounting park admission. Only thing that immediately comes to mind was an offer 3-4 years ago where they extended AP renewals for 15 months instead of just 12.

Historically, Disney's practice has been to raise admission prices 1-2 times per year at rates much higher than inflation. Those who want to visit the parks have no choice but to pay.

Bingo, Tim.

They want to use magic band data to decide where to shore up their numbers via the DVC incentive. But unfortunately, they can't get the numbers because their magic bands are broken too.

On hold now with IT help, so far 2 hours getting our MBs fixed. Doesn't include the 10 plus hours of earlier calls, ever since they came out with my Disney exp all our online stuff has been a mess.

I agree - the revenue generated from the $399 PAP offer ended up squarely on the 2012 balance sheet so probably helped P&R hit their target that year...

That said, I don't see a lot of entitlement in this thread. More like hopes and dreams ;) Nothing wrong with that and, yeah, my fingers are still crossed. But, I will be buying my AP for my upcoming trip either way and am still happy to get the "regular" discount...
