DVC and trading

We are still waffling on buying but I have a question. How easy (or hard) is it to trade our disney points for another resort somewhere else? I don't mean their own class of resorts but thru II?

Not easy to answer. Often depends how far ahead you can plan and what resort you want to get in return.

FWIW, I don't think there are very many II resorts that are as nice as DVC. The ones that are, don't seem to have much availability - guess those who own them generally stay there or maybe do direct trades outside of II. JMHO. YMMV.

At any moment there are a small number of "instant trades" available. They're not always of first quality, although we took one to the Marriott Ford's Colony at Williamsburg that was excellent. For the other trades, it's best to plan at least a year ahead (2 years for most resorts in Hawaii, many of which are difficult to get), and to give MS a range of acceptable dates and resort choices. You should understand that trading outside of DVC is almost never a financial bargain, although for the instant trades it can be very convenient (which has its own value).
