I'm not a DVC member, so if I rent points from someone can we still get the Disney Dining Plan? This is the only thing holding us back from renting. Thanks for your help. My goal is to be a member before the kids are grown.

Welcome to the DIS:surfweb:

Yes you can add dining plan...when you are renting points....

Tell the person you are renting from that u want it...
they might have to tell them that at ressie time...

you pay for the plan when you check in...
happy planning

Yes, the member you rent from will need to call Member Services and have the dining plan linked to your reservation. There is no requirement to purchase park tickets in order to add the dining plan to a DVC point reservation at a DVC resort, you may purchase your park tickets anywhere you wish.

2007 costs for the dining plan are $38.99 per adult and $10.99 per child per night of the reservation. The plan must be for everyone on the reservation for the entire length of the reservation. You pay for the plan when you check-in to your DVC resort.

There have been some rumors that this option might only be available to DVC members and not non-members renting a reservation. But no one has had the DDP cancelled at this point.

Be aware that the Dining Plan is A LOT of food! For the price, you may want to just buy your food a la carte. I got it last year, but I gained 15 pounds that I am still trying to lose. It's hard to eat a full dinner, including something before dinner, and a dessert, for every day of your trip, plus dessert at lunch. I am a big eater, but it was too much, even for me.;)

i am thinking of doing the dining plan this summer. i have heard it's a lot of food. and now to hear about the desserts. just wondering if there are any healthy options to the dessert? like a fruit cup or jello or something? or are there only non-healthy options? my parents are both on weight watchers and i don't want them to completely wreck it bc of the dining plan. :scared1: any one know??:confused3

Cute kitties!:)

Yes, fruit is an option for dessert , but not usually at the :) sit-down restaurants. You have a HUGE amount of options on the dessert plans--you :) can even go into the resort stores, and buy a large bag of chips, or a large water, if you wanted. I just wanted to point out that the oerdurve(I can't spell it--sorry) makes the dining plan a good value, but if you eat all that food to get the value, you will gain a lot of weight, so it might be cheaper to buy a la carte. It sure is easy to have your meals paid for ahead of time, though!:goodvibes

Deb, I seem to be disagreeing with you today ;) but I have to say that I don't think WDW would cancel anyone's DDP reservation.

If the policy is changed, I can't imagine the DDP reservations already in place not being honored.

As for rumored changes, we always have so many rumors going on the DVC boards, don't we? I very much enjoy them.:lmao:

Oh, and as to the "too much food." As always YMMV. I actually lost a pound or two on the DDP one trip. You don't have to eat all of your desserts or even order them for that matter. I know we usually didn't get desserts at QS with the exception of Mara...too good to resist there.

And the plan will still pay for itself if you don't order desserts.

I was concerned about the amount of food on the DDP too until I looked at all the menus ahead of time and you can get a salad as an appetizer. That's what I'm planning on doing for our June trip and I figure I don't have to eat a dessert or all of it if I order one. I'm on LA Weight Loss and have lost 53 lbs. so far. So far on two of our trips to WDW I have come back losing weight - so much walking. We weren't on the DDP then but I figure I'll just have to choose smart - we'll see. We have ADR's for some expensive restaurants and I figured that the DDP would be a good choice this trip.

I haven't heard this rumor and it doesn't sound right. It sounds more like "...people say..." which is a sure tip-off for bogus info.

I also agree that it's inconceivable that Disney would cancel DDP from someone's reservation just because they were renting points. One reason is that Disney has no way of knowing whether someone is renting points or is just a friend/relative of a member.

And secondly, what's in it for Disney to cancel someone from eating all their meals in Disney food outlets? Makes no sense.
