DVC and Garbage

My daughter and family are Saratoga Springs DVC owners. They are taking us on vacation there at the end of May. They have never been, so I would like to have the answer to a couple of minor questions.

What do guests do with their garbage? I understand that we will receive room cleanup only once during our 6 day stay. What do we do with our garbage in the meantime? We will have a baby in diapers and also will be eating the room every day for breakfast-banana peels, etc.

Also, can DVC members request a certain section ( ie. Grandstand) without additional points?

I also understand that if we run out of anything there is a charge. Do they provide the initial shampoo, soap, dish soap, toilet paper, Kleenex, etc?

When they say dishware and glassware are provided, does that include silverware?

Thanks for your help.

I also understand that if we run out of anything there is a charge. Do they provide the initial shampoo, soap, dish soap, toilet paper, Kleenex, etc? Yes, those things are initially provided. We do bring along our own shampoo, but there is a small bottle provided.

When they say dishware and glassware are provided, does that include silverware?Yes, silverware is included. I assume you're in a one or two bedroom unit?

Thanks for your help.

Hope you have a wonderful trip! We're just back from SSR and it was a lovely resort.:goodvibes

I will take a shot at answering where I can.

There is a kitchen size garbage bin and the same size recycle bin for glass/plastic/cans etc. under the kitchen sink. There are also smaller wastebaskets in the BR and bath. We did not have a problem with filling it up, but we did not have diapers to deal with either! I think that there is a place in each building where you can take your trash, but someone more knowledgeable than I will have to answer that.

Also, can DVC members request a certain section ( ie. Grandstand) without additional points?

You can make the request when you make your reservation. If you have already made one, then you can call MS and have the request added. However, remember that these requests are never guaranteed.

I also understand that if we run out of anything there is a charge. Do they provide the initial shampoo, soap, dish soap, toilet paper, Kleenex, etc?

The initially provide hotel sized soap, shampoo, conditioner etc. They also provide all paper products except napkins. They provide both regular dish soap and soap for the dishwasher in 1BR or more.

When they say dishware and glassware are provided, does that include silverware?

Silverware is included in the 1BR and higher villas

BTW - love your user name. That is DH's nickname for me. :)

Thanks, Lori-Wow you must have been sittin' there waiting for me to post.:surfweb:

I guess we are in a two bedroom. The daughter will have the one bedroom with the kitchen, etc. Hubby and I will be in the studio that is attached. I am very unsure about this resort. We have always stayed at CBR and love it there.

Thanks, again

There are trash disposal/recycle locations at all DVC resorts, I'm not familiar with the specific locations at SSR, but ask at the front desk. There should be new trash bags in the trash container under the bag currently in use. If you run out, housekeeping will provide them for free.
Also, can DVC members request a certain section ( ie. Grandstand) without additional points?

Yes, at SSR there are no specific guaranteed booking locations, and all rooms of the same type take the same number of points throughout the resort. All such requests should be added to the reservation by Member Services, and requests are not guaranteed.
I also understand that if we run out of anything there is a charge. Do they provide the initial shampoo, soap, dish soap, toilet paper, Kleenex, etc?

Yes, there are the standard hotel size bottles of shampoo & conditioner, along with bars of soap and liquid dish soap. For one bedrooms and larger units there is a one-load size box of Tide and dishwasher detergent.

If you run short of paper towels or toilet paper, housekeeping provides it at no charge. Just call them or flag down a housekeeper if you see one.

There is a charge for more laundry soap, shampoo and conditioner. They will be provided free as part of your scheduled trash & towel service day.

Yes, in studios it will be plastic silverware, in one bedroom and larger units it will be stainless steel.

Enjoy your trip.

Thanks RK- It's good to know what we'll need to bring. I'm excited, but am a planner. I HATE surprises and like to be prepared.

Yep, I love Hunbun, too. I used to own a daycare center and started calling the kiddies by this name and it just stuck.

Thanks, Chuck.

Maybe I can bribe the grandsons to trade their stainless for my plastic! A few Mickey Bars ought to do the trick.:rotfl:

Usually the biggest complaint I've read that people have with SSR is it's spread out, but so is CBR. If you love it there, I think you'll be very happy at SSR. This was our first stay there and we were very pleased. It is spread out, but we were in the Grandstand section and it was a much shorter walk to the main pool and to DTD than I was expecting. We also had great luck with the buses. I don't think we ever waited more than ten minutes, and usually it was less than five. It's a very relaxing atmosphere and we'll be very happy to stay there again.

You are going to have a great time at SSR. For trips in the future, if you are CBR lovers someday you should try OKW -- I think of it as CBR on steroids.

Thanks, Chuck.

You won't have any plastic if you are a dedicated two bedroom. If your daughter requested a lockoff two bedroom, you will be in a studio connected to a one bedroom.

Although they do provide dishwashing soap and laundry detergent, it is a very small amount. We normally get 2 runs of the dishwasher with what they leave. The laundry detergent is the small box like you get in a vending machine in a coin op laundry.

... so I would like to have the answer to a couple of minor questions.

What do guests do with their garbage?
This has already been answered, but I just wanted to let you know that it's not a minor question! We often see negative comments here about guests just putting their garbage outside their villa door, which really trashes the resort. Some of that is probably just laziness or self-absorption, but in some resorts it's really not clear where to put your garbage. When we stayed at SSR, we had to ask.

One other thing I would suggest you bring (if you are coffee drinkers) is extra coffee and filters. I believe the coffee maker takes the standard #4 filter, but that's something we always manage to forget and have to go shopping for.

Hmmm ... I thought that all DVC resorts take the Mr. Coffee basket type filters instead of the cone shape.

If the OP is in a studio, I would recommend that she bring along a set of disposable plastic (Ziplock/Glad) containers. They made great cereal bowls and they stand up to being microwaved. You can always snag more plastic cutlery at any CS location.

I believe that SSR's Trash rooms are on the 1st floor. I know there was not a trash room on the 4th floor and did not bother checking floors 2 and 3, but the 1st floor room#/vending signs by the elevator also had an arrow pointing to the trash room...

It is a it too much of an adventure finding the trash room that first time, I think it should be posted on the door on the fire exit charts...
