DVC and Free Dining

I am sure this question has been asked and answered before but... Was DVC offered the free dining in September?

No, the free dining promo was only available with full rack rate rooms through CRO with a dining/ticket package. It was a way to make $$ for Disney by selling full rate rooms, there is no advantage to the company to offer it to DVCers.

That's right. DVC is a purchased timeshare, not a booking class. We as DVC members are still able to purchase the dining plan at the same price that it is offered to others during the non-free periods.

That's true, but not many of us are willing to do THAT! LOL! I personally don't feel any entitlement to any of the "free" plans that WDW comes up with to encourage folks to stay at their resorts. I'd much rather know that I am paying 1992 prices for my 2006 stay, and that I will still be paying virtually the same thing (negating maintenance) for the next 35 years, should I be so lucky to live that long!

Pass holders can get a 20% discount card for most disney restraunts for up to a party of 10 people. Cost is $60.00 for the card or $85.00 for florida res..

I believe you are thinking of the DDE card, and that is for AP holders. We like the savings with that too.

Not to hijack, but if you own DVC, or rent points from someone, would you still have to buy park tickets in order to get the dining plan.
I heard that if you were staying at a Disney resort and wanted the dining package, that you would have to buy park passes in order to do so.
We have about 7 days of park passes left over, and to buy a one day just to be able to get dining doesn't save us any money. I was wondering if the DVC resorts worked the same way.

I just made a reservation today and the rep said I could call and add the dining package anytime prior to my stay. She did not specifiy that I would have to buy a ticket package in order to take advantage of it.

No...IF. IF you are staying at a DVC resort on a points reservation, you don't have to buy park tickets. It doesn't matter whether you are a DVC owner or renter, but a renter will have to have the member they rented from make the DDP arrangements for them.

There's a separate Disney Dining Plan board over in the Restaurants section of the DIS.

[ETA: The "Free" dining plan was only offered during a very short period the last two years -- this year from August 13 until September 30. So, it's not generally available.

Also, I did see several DVC owners post that they'd chosen to rent rooms and take advantage of the "free dining."]

no need to buy a pass. You do need to buy the plan for the number of nights you are staying and for every guest in your party (room)

We are renting points to some friends in March, and they would like to use the DDP and are wanting to know if they can wait to pay for it when they check in. The are Disney Visa card holders, and would like to use their Disney reward dollars to pay for the dining plan. I know that I need to call first to add it to their reservation.

You are correct that you need to call to make the arrangements for DDP, as the actual owner. But everyone, owners and renters, pays for the dining plan at check-in. Member Services had no way to apply payments to a ressie in their computer system. That is also part of the reason we can not pre-pay park tickets as part of our DVC room ressies.
