DVC and Dining Plan question(large group)

I am going to be booking a grand gathering for next July,20 people, 3 2bdrm units. If one unit 's occupants want to use the dining plan, do the people in the other units have to also ? In order to let each family decide about the dining plan do I need a separate ressie for each unit or because it is a grand gathering does it all go on one reservation? Does this question make sense at all to anyone? Thanks for helping !

Yes, your question makes perfect sense. And the answer is? It depends.

The general rule is all people on the same reservation have to either be on DDP or not for the entire period of their stay. So...if you make one big ressie for all three rooms -- yes, everybody would have to be on DDP or not.

OTOH, if you make three separate ressies, each villa would be able to either opt in or opt out -- still for the entire duration of the stay. But everyone in a particular villa would be in or out. You can't have some in and some out.

I did a GG last December with two other families. When I started the GG, I gave their names and addresses and I got a GG# that the other families gave when they called to make their reservations. We were all on separate ressies. If you link as a GG and book far enough in advance, then you should still get rooms together, but can customize your vacation any way you want.

Each villa has to opt in or out for the entire time. when you have a large group like I do (28) its a nightmare because some people want to stay only 7 days , some the whole time and some only for the long weekend. I tried to get around this problem by putting people in villas that they weren't staying in with other people not on the plan. This way they can come for 4 days and not have to screw it up for everyone else. I also have the problem where part of my group is in a one bdroom on points for part of the stay and linked with a complimentary stay room . I'm told that you can't get the dining plan for the comp nites only the points nights so now I have to fiqure away to get around this too. Everyone who is going wants the plan but either they are only staying part of the time or cant GET IT STAYING THEIR VILLA. I have a grand villa that I have only 6 people staying in so I'm thinking of adding extra people to get the plan up to the 12 only they will be staying in a villa without the plan. I fiqure if joe is staying 5 nights and mary is only staying 5 nights by putting one person in the grand villa I'll get 10nights worth of food for them to share. I need an excell spread sheet to keep it straight.good luck I know I have thought about scrapping the whole dining plan anfd just getting the DDE because we have 6 annual passes in the group which would cover everyone.

When we booked 2 units for AKV for June 2008 last week, each unit HAD to be a seperate reservation. We could not book them together. Each had to be a seperate reservation with its own confirmation number and different names on each reservation. I don't know if this is a new policy or just the MS person we got that day.
