My Fiance just booked our Honeymoon for next June using DVC points and they asked for his credit card. Anytime I have ever booked DVC I was never asked for one. Is this something new they are doing?? Why do they need the credit card now if we are using points to book the room??

That's something new they have started. You can choose not to give them the CC. There's another thread here on the Disboards with people talking about this change.

I Just booked a week ago and never was asked for a credit card. why would they need one?

They don't need it for the reservation, they're just 'front loading' some of the info they ask you by grabbing your CC info at booking time to go on your account for charging privs, etc.

It's just moving more jobs away from the front desk (and possibly moving jobs away too).

You can just say that you don't want to give the info and do it at check-in as normal.

I was doing it online using the online check-n screens, and my CC was not accepted (yes, there was plenty of credit available on the card). It seems that due to so much CC fraud, many institutions are not allowing online purchases/info that bill out from Florida. I also has two cards declined trying to get tickets from a legitimate online discounter.

That may be one reason they are asking for the info at time of booking now.

They asked when I called a couple of months ago but I said no. I don't know which credit card I will want to use in April so there's no reason to keep a number on file. I have a Disney Visa, a Delta AmEX and a Southwest MasterCard. It depends on where I want reward points to go when the time comes.

Same here. I just made our October 2012 reservation and was asked if I wanted to put a CC # on file. I said no, I don't know which one I'll one to use at that time. No reason to put that info in the system any sooner than necessary.

Recording the card number electronically instead of physically at check in reduces the chance of your card info being skimmed by the CM. This has happened to us twice, once at BWV and once at BCV.

Last year a Front Desk CM at OKW and SSR was arrested for skimming.

You can add it electronically when you do online check in. No need to give it to MS 11 months in advance.

Same with me when I was booking our stay for January. Both times I called MS (doing a split stay) they had asked if I wanted to put a card on file and both times I politely declined. Like the PP said, I don't know which card I am going to use for incidentals so I am just going to wait until we check into both resorts before giving them my card number.
