dvc 2020 member cruise

I would never do an Alaskan cruise on DCL anyway. Besides being overpriced, DCL can't go into Glacier Bay, which HAL, Princess and NCL can.

I always thought the Member Cruise was a charter? So DVC would be paying DCL for the ship and then whatever they charge is their own choosing for this one. As another example I know that TCM has chartered one of the DCL boats a couple of times and then they would charge their customers whatever rate they chose to.

After a couple years off from dcl tcm is coming back to dcl in oct on a Bermuda cruise. I’m not interested thou. I think on a tcm cruise you don’t get credit for the cruise but on a dvc cruise you do get credit. Is that correct? Also a dvc cruise is just like a dcl cruise with some more special things. A tcm cruise on dcl is not like a dcl cruise.

This seems in line with the usual disney cruise markup. Not having a casino on board definitely drives up the cost, but DCL is already outrageously overpriced. Or maybe not, since they book up anyway. If I cruised, I'd rather take 3 RCCL sailings for the cost of one DCL one, but that's a whole different discussion. My point is that the outrageous member cruise price is comparable to the outrageous regular DCL pricing. We'll see if it books up.

I agree with you 100% I love dcl but they broke me with prices compared to any other cruise line. Going on royal in June Disney will be an every other year trip to get the rebooking discount and only on their cheaper weeks.

For the MC? It's published.

FWIW, I'm booking a suite on RCCL for Alaska in high summer for 4 for under $8k. Even with some nickel and diming, this wouldn't get me near so far on DCL for Alaska, let alone this MC.

Well Glacier Bay is a must and we want to sail from and back to Seattle. I can get a verandah on Hal for 2 adults for $4800 sailing next Sept. 2020. Doubt I'll get close to that on this member cruise.

Dcl is nice but not worth current prices when you can get a similar or better experience on other cruise lines. We can cruise 3x per year now for the price of one cruise on dcl. Pretty awesome actually. And bonus, I don't have to sit through the golden mickey's on other lines. Lol

At certain times of year quite a few TAs & CMs are filling the ships on discounted rates.

Very discounted rates. They also give free cruises to people on utube. Kind of annoys me for some reason. Other lines do not do this because they lower their prices for the general public. Dcl pretty much never gives the general public a break.

Me too. I think, for me, it’s bothersome b/c so many online view “full ship” as a justification for the markups. It just isn’t so.

We looked into this cruise as my mom wants to go on an Alaska cruise for her 70th. I couldn't justify the prices as we could get a suite for the cost of the members cruise.

Sadly, this is normally one of the least expensive weeks to cruise Alaska with DCL. Making it a Member cruise ruined that.

I mean, I got a suite on another line for what DCL wants for an inside room two days later, normal cruise. Nope.

As much as I love Disney and happily spend exorbitant amounts of money on tickets, food, and hotels each year at WDW, DCL is just mind-boggling. I understand the high cost of WDW because there's no alternative that offers that caliber of experience. As nice as DCL is, RCCL and others offer a highly comparable-- even superior in many ways-- experience at literally 1/3rd the cost. I'm amazed that enough people see value in DCL to keep the ships full.

Heck, just compare it to other DCL sailings...

Just saying... We could book the 9-night DCL Greek Isles cruise for less than this 7-night DCL DVC Alaska itinerary...

(NOTE: Assumes booking with OBB)

The cash pricing is in line with Disney Alaska cruise costs in general...yes there is a slight mark up, there always is, likely to help cover costs for invited guests & etc ( my guess I do not know for sure but that is a standard practice for presenters invited to conferences and meetings). Alaska in general is a more expensive cruise compared to other cruises offered in other locations. We will not know 2020 pricing until next week for a more accurate comparison so I’m looking at 2019 pricing today.

Everyone has to decide for themselves if the value & destination is worth the cost in money or points to their travel and family situation. I really enjoy the extras that come with a DVC Member Cruise, and the atmosphere of all DVC members, so if the destination is a place I want to go, then the pricing is OK & I’m in....if I can get thru on the phone lines!

I disagree that the mark up is slight. I compared identical staterooms on the 8/17/20 Alaska sailing (the one right before this one) the price difference is anywhere from 15-30% higher. Keep in mind that DCL Alaska cruises are generally 50-100% more than other lines doing the Alaska sailings. I'll post my question here as well - what are they doing on these cruises that is worth the extra money?
