DVC “Confessions”

I am not a "back in the day" person. More of a forward on! person. But I do miss the value that DVC resort cast members would cast upon all their guests. Miss it a lot. Now it's clipped responses and no real assistance. With the exception of Vero Beach, it seems to no longer exist. I keep it to myself because if I expressed that to my "non Disney" husband, it would probably limit future trips.

I walked a reservation once. We REALLY wanted a Boardwalk view for the first time, we stalked it, it was available, and I did what I did. I'm not proud, but it's cathartic getting it off my chest!
Is Boardwalk View that hard to get? I'm hoping to get a 2bd in Oct next year, but I'm fine with Pool if that's all I can get.

No I have not. I just have never wanted to go so why spend my money going somewhere that I don’t want to go? That feeling may change one day but it hasn’t hit me yet.
You should definitely try DisneyIand some day. Just so you can say you have, I understand you may not be as nostalgic as most about the parks, & be more about the "vacation", but should still try the original even if you have to stay off property in a fat suite at the Westin. :teeth:

We bought into DVC without ever seeing a single resort in person AND we had never vacationed at WDW previously.
Same as part 1 of this sentence. I had been several times due to grandparents living in Kissimmee, but we never stayed onsite. I did bring my twins in 2018, but rented a house to save money. We were supposed to stay at VGF in Sep 2020, but my kids school changed the calendar for that school year due that lovely little pandemic we had going on. Thankfully, DVC Rental Store has it's guarantee and I was able to reschedule for Jan 2021; so we finally got to stay deluxe with a few days at Kidani before heading over to BLT to use my new SSR points I picked up over the summer.

I'm not sure I ever want to go to HH or VB.
I completely understand why people wouldn't be interested in Hilton Head but personally it's one of my favorites. The cast members are on another level when it comes to customer service. Similar to WDW, some things have been removed/dumbed down after Covid but the resort is still wonderful. Plus you can explore other parts of the island outside of the resort.

I will say that the new room refurbs are.................not wonderful but I have yet to see them in person. I stayed there before the refurb and that room was incredibly run down. It was tied with BLT for worst DVC room I've ever stayed in.

Sorry to say it, but a 2BR lock off (the only option at BWV), no matter the view, is very difficult unless you have BWV points and are a fast/lucky clicker at 8am EST on the 11-month mark. There's just not a lot of inventory and the studios are in high demand by owners because they are relatively cheap.

1BRs are the easiest to snag at BWV. You can occasionally get a Boardwalk view at the 7-month mark for a few nights (like, right now, it looks like there is actually a week of availability starting on exactly the 7 month mark, but it'll be gone by next week for sure). Pool/Garden view is much more likely to be available within the 7-month window. I've never had a problem getting a 1BR, P/G view at or reasonably close to the 7-month mark, outside of the few high demand weeks.

This goes without surprise, though, as BWV is definitively the best Disney resort per every expert, ever :P (and no, I don't own there).

Enjoy your trip next fall!

I think the thing is that people don't want to spend DVC points on it, not that they wouldn't or don't like the resort.
I think it could be an amazing vacation, but i couldn't imagine using my points for it, but maybe rent some points. :)

Oh no I do own there, just haven't used my points there yet (I've had waitlists come thru for Pool view studio), so hopefully there is a decent chance at 11 months, but I agree it is the best, so even if not BW view, it'll be great!!

I would lump that into "wouldn't be interested in Hilton Head" as well tbh. I do understand the reasoning, especially if you have nice beaches where you live but I really do love HHI. I was there last year and had a great time. It's definitely a laid back type of trip, so the complete opposite of WDW/DL.

Can't speak for Vero Beach. Have never been there before and often forget Disney has a resort there.

Oh, if you own there, you'll get what you want. I look at everything through the prism of the 7-month window.

I guess that's confession #2 for me: our AKV points are SAPs. Have owned there for many years, have never stepped foot on property.

OMG, now that is surprising...
Savanna view was my first ever stay at WDW (just earlier this year), & I can't imagine going to WDW without staying there for a couple nights at least!!
It's funny because i feel like it has to be my first stop on every trip. Like they all need to start there now. lol

I've heard so many people say that!

Well, we're giving DLR a chance for the first time soon, and we're super excited about that, so maybe this is the era we break out of our comfort zone and give AKV a chance too, lol.

But see, next year (next year being next use year, lol) is graduation, and we promised a stay at the new IT for graduation, and round and round it goes...

Confession #2

We stayed at DVC the last night before covid shut down and we had to take a roll of 1 ply sandpaper home because we couldn't find any toilet paper.
I tells ya - during Covid I was tempted to retrieve my Owners Locker - it was full of good TP, Lysol spray and wipes, liquid soap and hand sanitizer!

My wife's favorite it AK, My favorite is BLT. My youngest favorite is BWV - refurb rooms. My middle daughter loves Poly (which I Do not care for at all). Stayed at SSR, Boulder Ridge, Old Key West and enjoyed them all. Never stayed at GF--my wife does not like the vibe of the place. Also never stayed at RIV or Copper Creek. RIV looks ok, but do not like the point charts. The most disliked is surprising BC--maybe having a picture fall of the wall and hit you in the head leaves a bad impression. Also not a fan of Vero Beach.
