I am in the process of trying to copy some home movies over to DVD so that I can sell my 8MM camera. I am using Arcsoft Showbiz and I am having to save the movies as an AVI file. Will I have a problem putting that on a DVD? It has a setting for copying a tape as a DVD file (MPG) but for some reason, the computer will not record it. Keep getting an error saying there was a pause in the tape. The AVI file did great and it appears to move to the DVD fine in the program and does not take up the whole 4GB space of the DVD but I am concerned that an AVI file will not work. Please tell me it will. Or can anyone tell me why the recording doesn't seem to work using the MPG setting?

Thanks from a newbie!

Ok Ratpack, its really time to go and buy Pinnacle ;)

Actually, maybe I will upgrade to version 9 and I may be able to send you my version 8 for a low price :teeth:

AVI files are what you would want the files to be saved as. AVI is the best quality of video, and I know on Pinnacle it is what the files are formatted to when your movies write to a disc. So that should be ok....it could be either the program or your computer. You need to make sure that your computer has a lot of memory and a lot of drive space. We use a Sony VAIO with 60GB on the D: drive and its great! On the laptop we didn't have near the space and therefore it wouldn't write.

What kind of new camcorder are you getting?

I have the Sony DCR-HC40. Can't change programs, DW would kill me unless I find a new job soon. If AVI is what I want then I am good, because that is what works. I was just concerned since this is my first time doing this.

Yeah, AVI is what I have used and it really turns out the best. MPEG isn't bad or anything but I guess in my situations the quality seems to be less (IMO).

Have a good time ;)
