O.K. We had a recent mattress thread. A recent bed thread. I bought both, should be here this week.

NOW, need a duvet cover -- funny, I always called it a comforter cover....

Those things are pretty expensive. Being thrifty, anyway have any suggestions.....???

Cotton or flannel, under $50 if possible for a queen?

I have been getting a headache, even worse than with mattresses and beds looking for this stuff....

Oh, if anyone cares, ended up with Sleep Innovations Taylor Gel Swirl 12" mattress (rated well by Consumer Reports) and Atlantic Furniture Orlando open foot rail bed with headboard, or something close to that.

Have an old (hardly used) Primaloft comforter. Now need a cover....Any help would be appreciated....!!!:sunny:

I got an inexpensive duvet cover from Ikea. It started out dark gray and has slowly changed to almost an army green?

I do not recommend Ikea LOL

I'm pretty sure we got ours at Bed Bath and Beyond for under 50. If is flannel and we got a light weight comforter to go in it.

You should be able to find one on amazon for less than $50, there are thousands of choices. I'm also looking at duvets, because the down comforter I just ordered from amazon is arriving this week. Today I was looking a little at overstock.com and The Company Store (not gonna be less than $50, but they've always been my benchmark for blankets & covers).
I haven't looked too hard online yet, and my goal tomorrow is to check out Marshall's before committing to anything online.
I also want to pay around $50.

I would make sure you get the measurements on the duvet insert first most cheaper duvet cover are smaller and not the right measurement. I wouldn't go with flannel unless this is something you plan to change seasonally. Also cheap flannel would get the little balls that would make it look worn quickly. Good quality flannel would be hard to find at the $50 price point. I would go with cotton you can find a decent duvet cover in pottery barn(pottery barn essentials) for $79 they usually always have a way to get 20% coupon. You can also try bed bath and beyond see what you find on sale. Now the pottery barn essentials only have white and off white color which I would suggest anyway to keep it neutral and if you want some color you can always use accent pillows and a blanket for that.

We got a nice, simple one from IKEA 2 years ago and it is wearing very well. I think we paid $30 for it. Ours is white and purple. No problems with fading.

IKEA duvets are smaller than standard insert or duvet. Unless OP buys their insert too it won't work.

I have a Macy's charter club down comforter back from when I got an employee discount, and an Ikea cover my sister didn't want anymore.

It fits fine. Just check the measurements to be sure.

We have always had a hard time finding duvet covers that fit our inserts. One is from Ikea and 2 from Europe. Different sizes than the US is the only thing we can think of.

So I second the need to measure.

Due to the inability to find covers that fit MIL's inserts, she started buying sheets on sale then have her seamstress attach them. A long side has velcro to close them up.

I just checked the pbteen.com and there are select duvets 40% off. There is one called Peyton in a kelly green for $19.99. Pretty nice.

I love PB teen...my duvet cover is from their winter catalog years ago...maroon with little bulldogs :)

Wayfair.com has good ones under $50.
My dog has the horrible habit of "digging" and chewing his toys through blankets. I've gone through a lot of bedding the past two years and I found a very affordable duvet cover on wayfair in lots of pretty colors, machine washable and you are able to tie the corners of it to the actual duvet.
I had to find one that was cheap enough where I wouldnt be totally devastated when I find a hole in it (because i KNOW that will happen!) and would be able to replace it without spending a fortune.

I like high quality bedding, so I like Hudson Park 800 thread count duvets from Bloomingdales. I don't pay Bloomingdale's prices. I get display units from a vendor called Marceoutlet on ebay. Search for them and stick to high end products. Read reviews at Macys and Bloomingdales. I pay around $40-$60 for a $200-$400 dollar duvets. They are wonderful.

I got two duvet sets at TJMaxx/homegoods/Marshalls. It can be confusing as they are put out in an area with sheets sometimes, not where the comfortors are. Both were 100% cotton and held up well. I find bed bath & beyond as well as many department stores just overcharge, I mean as another person stated its essentially two sheets sewn together.

I paid $40 for my last one and the first was $50 or $60 but it also came with a throw pillow that matched the sham covers.

Still looking -- OP here -- but ran into trouble....Decided to go to T.J. Maxx and see what they had....well, a few King sets and one Queen. The Queen was horribly ugly....

But, wifey, saw a Ralph Lauren leather decorative pillow (18-inch square).

It was in the clearance aisle. Price tag (clearance price) was $40. WHAT!!! Marked down from $70-something. WHAT!!!

She really wanted it -- actually, she wanted FOUR of them -- $160 USD. Lucky there is no sales tax in Oregon. But, she decided not to buy....until the next morning when she called me at work and asked me to get four of them during my lunch hour....EEEEEKKKK.

So, what do I do?

Grudgingly say O.K. and then Google the darn thing. Turns out it is still being sold by RL on their Web site for $200 each. EEEEKKK.

Well, we now own four new pillows for the Living Room. Still looking for Duvet cover....They had five....wonder if I should buy the last one and sell it on EBAY... HAHA>

Great story!!! I actually ended up with 5 throw pillows on top of my duvet set as I "needed" them to complete the $50 duvet set and I think they cost more. The good news is they were neutral, so some made it to the couch and the rest matched the newest duvet. I got smart and got a down throw pillow insert at H&M home since I can change out the cover when I find them on clearance there for as cheap as $5.

I needed a few visits before I found something I liked, its very hit or miss, they also tend to put out duplicates so you find one pattern out on the shelf there 20 times. You would think no one in the US uses a duvet with the rareity of these items.

When I was a broke new graduate, I got two flat sheets on clearance and sewed them together. It worked fine for years.

Tried to get wife to go for the "new" hotel look where they use a trio of sheets as a comforter cover, instead of a formal duvet, but she did not go for it. Found detailed instructions on one of those sites, don't really recall, but lifehacker or apartment therapy or some such.

Still looking. I am leaning toward flannel, bought one from Company Store about 12 years ago and the thing has been fantastic. Got it for around $70 at the time (way over priced in my opinion, but, I am the guy who does not like $40 pillows)..
