I was just wondering if anyone knows what it is like to bring duty free thru customs right now. Also are you allowed to take something into the US as we will be leaving in December to go to Disney and we are goingthru Toronto and I'm just checking to see how it is to take alcohol from Duty free right now. I know for sure we will be wanting to bring something back when we head home to Winnipeg but I have no idea what they are allowing right now when going thru security. Any info would be much appreciated

TIA

No Liquids of any kind in your checked baggage unless it fits into a ziploc baggie and is no more than 3 oz.

With that being said, I don't think you will be allowed it if you are flying unless you pack it very carefully in your checked luggage.

I could be wrong, but I think because it is known as an international flight they are not allowing you to bring Duty Free Alcohol on board.

Coming back from MCO we bought Duty Free and picked it up as we boarded the plane back.

Well I will have to check with our agent and see what she knows as that is a bummer if you are unabel to bring home duty free. I don't understand why if you buy it and they then give it to you onboard that you are unable to do so. They will know themselves that nothing was tampered if there personal brings it on for you. Or also I can't understand why you can't pick it up once you have landed back home. I suppose we will see as I don't want to by something if we are unable to have it onboard as it would be a waste of our money. I would never think of packing something like that in my luggage not with the way the bags get thrown around. I would be to afraid of it being broken. I will also have to see if we are allowed to take a bottle into the US as I'm not sure of that and how that works either. I do want to thank you for your answers and if anyone else knows anything I would appreciate your replies also

Most duty free shops now deliver planeside (or gate side). Not a problem now. You just can't buy it and take it through security yourself. Once you are in the "sterile" area - your duty free should get delivered to you.

If you are bringing "stuff" from home it must go into your checked luggage. We had no problem packing bottles of wine in bubble wrap, putting then in the centre of our suitcase inside those jumbo ziploc bags (just in case). All arrived safely.

Thanks for this info do you know if you are allowed to take duty free into the US as I know you are able to buy it for the way home which we will do for sure but I'm thinking if we can take it into the US we may get some for the resort as I know that it isn't that easy to get once we are out there or it cost a fortune to buy at the resorts. Let me know if anyone knows the answer to this

I was looking on the airport guide and cannot see any listing. I was hoping to find out if they will be open prior to our 7 am flight home. Also, if anyone does try to purchase alcohol there before January, could you post to let me know if we actually can bring it home?

Last time I was there they were doing renos so it was moving around.

we just got home. flew westjet..this was the process.

dh bought duty free in orlando.
they bring it to the gate and you trade your reciept for your purchase and then take it onboard with you.

in toronto we had to pick up our bags and go thru customs. we had to repack the duty free into our CHECKED luggage as you can NOT take liquids thru security.

So his alcohol made the rest of the trip home in the checked luggage. It was fine-it didn't break.

I am assuming that if you are switching planes in toronto this would be the process for all carriers.

And yes..we have bought duty free going down--you just can't bring it back with you. For example-buy a carton of smokes-but smoke em all while you are there.

Thanks for tis info as I do hope that if we buy liquor to come home that we don't have any problems. Did your husband wrap it in anything to keep it safe? Also buying on the way down where did you have to buy it? As it would be alcohol that I was thinking of getting. I figure if we can buy on the way down then I won't have to find a liquor store right away down there, also if you don't have a vehicle it would be hard or cost you alot if you buy at your resort.

on the way down..duty free is right before you go thru usa customs..you can't miss it-a big store.

on the way back..the store was by the gate where we boarded the plane.

the bottle dh bought was in a box-so we didn't do anything extra.

maybe take something to wrap it in.

Remember that you're going to the States so you can pretty much pick up liquor anywhere. I'm not a drinker so I don't really pay too much attention to where you can buy it but I seem to recall an aisle in the Publix with beer, spirits and wine....and all for some incredible prices (compared to up here). You're probably better off buying it down there if you've got a rental car.

If you're intent on checking a bottle...I think I'd see if you could get a big enough ziplock that a bottle would fit in. Putting the bottle in the ziplock and then wrapping it up in clothes might work. Or bring some bubble wrap with you and wrap the bottle up. I would be a bit leery about checking a liquid . All you need is for it to break....you'll be spending your first night in Orlando doing your laundry. Ick. Your luggage would also stink...

You can buy jumbo ziploc bags at Walmart-they are perfect for 3 bottles of wine and bubble wrap. We had no problems with them in our checked luggage-just make sure you put them in the middle of the suitcase and pack your clothes around them.

I wonder how does it work though if you buy on the way down. Do you have to take it with you or do they give it to you as your boarding the plane. I realize that we can buy liquor once there but if you dont' have a vehicle to get it I thought it maybe nice to get something at duty free. I just feel this liquid rule is such a pain but I do understnad the reasoning behind it. Rather be safe then sorry and it is good that they check but just such a hassle remembering and packing things

You would think that if you bought it at the airport duty free they would deliver to the boarding area as well.-I'll check the YYZ site.
