If you bring more than that, you'll need to declare it and pay duties on the excess amount (even if you've bought them in a duty free shop, only the items under your allowance will be exempt from duties when you cross the border)
What sort of thing are you thinking of?
We drink vodka, it usually costs £22 for 2L of Smirnoff at UK Duty free. We buy in Walgreens Liquor, 1.75L for $17.99 + tax = £13.50/bottle or £7.70/L plus a choice of around 10 flavours. Far cheaper over there.
If you are thinking of buying in the UK taking it to the US and bringing back again it will count as your 1l of duty free in both directions.
We often buy pimms in UK duty free to take with us to drink there as it is one of the few drinks that is cheaper in the UK. That is my 1l of duty free when entering the US however it never comes home with us!
i sent a email to usa customs this is what they sent back
You are allowed 1 liter duty free if you are at least 21 years old, and all you have to do is list it on the customs declaration you get on the plane.
do i have to list before i get on the plane or do i list when i get off the plane and then declaration
Depending on who you fly with you will either be given the customs form at check in or on the plane. You need to complete this and it declares everything you are taking into the US.
You will list it on the customs form you are given on the plane. You can take it onto the plane with you - no problem - but you will have to declare it when you take it into the US. Is there a particular reason why you want to buy it on the way OUT to the US? Do you plan to drink it there? If not, I suggest you wait and buy it at the duty free shop at Orlando Airport when you are coming home.
let me just add that it's ok if OP is flying direct to MCO and the purchase is made airside (past security)
If not, then the bottle needs to be placed in the checked luggage upon collection at a connection airport, or be placed in a sealed container/bag at the duty free shop. Otherwise it will be confiscated by security if OP needs to go through a security checkpoint before boarding the plane
