Just read on another board (from someone who called DD to make an ADR) that during next week's upgrade, Disney will start auto-canceling duplicate reservations.

1) I hope so.
2) It is long overdue.
3) Too many ressie hogs.
4) They keep others from getting timely ADR's.

Yes, I agree completely. Too many people with more than one ADR who don't cancel the ones they aren't using leads to many empty tables at restaurants and people without ADR's left to wait forever for an table. Less duplicates would also help Disney's bottom line on profits. ;)

I doubt it is true, but if they do auto-cancel any of my dupe ADRs I will be PISSED. I'm traveling with a party of 11 and have multiple ADRs on several days. I wasn't able to get a Tusker House reservation for 11 on one of the days, but I got one for 6 and a second for 5. We don't mind sitting apart, but we will be pissed if half of us don't get to eat because of an auto-cancel.

We also have a days when 4 people are eating at 50s Prime Time, 4 at Sci-Fi and the rest at Brown Derby. All ADRs are within 20 minutes of each other, but all are for different people.

I really doubt they would retroactively remove something they were more than happy to allow to be booked in the first place. It is perfectly fine to set a new policy for all ADRs going forward, disallowing double-bookings. But it would be wrong to retroactively apply a rule that did not exist at the time of original booking.

It's issues like the PP that make me think that that is a horrible idea. I would be angry if my ADRs were canceled because I had to have 2 for different groups of people. I know that people abuse the system, but I also know that I have to possibly make 2 different ADRs on the same night for 2 different groups of people. If one is canceled I will not be happy.

I have someone I follow on twitter who works for Disney and am pretty sure he is in IT. He had an interesting tweet the other day where he mentioned he was about to find out how many people actually make duplicate ADR's. Thought that it was interesting to see this and wondering what he would be looking at this for.

With reports of TAs booking one ADR @ each park for each day so their clients would have choices and people abusing the 180+10 to book for friends/family staying offsite and the hoarding reported this is overdue, IMO. .
However, assuming these reports are true, I do question the timing given the fiasco w/ online ADRs disappearing in the latest upgrade and people assuming their ADRs are gone and innocently booking a second time due to confusion caused by Disney's online ADR site.

Thanks for sharing what you read on another board. That same rumor has floated up around here a few times, and unfortunately those threads all had to be closed because they turned into moral debates about ADRs. :sad2:

That being said, at this time Disney has no written or known policy that prevents double bookings and while I don't believe in double booking, it's not up to me or anyone else on the board to attack others who don't adhere to our own personal morals. In situations like this it's best to go by Disney's written rules.

At this time Disney's policy is to warn of double bookings, but the option is up to the user to keep both reservations.

If Disney adopts the policy of not allowing double bookings or automatically canceling them, then that's their policy and posts on how to circumvent that rule won't be allowed on the boards.

triplejen & mmtska - if I were you, I'd call Disney Dining & see about putting your "duplicate" ADRs under a different name so they aren't accidentally cancelled.

I understand why Disney would want to crack down on people who abuse the ADR system, but as we can see from the two cases posted here ADRs that seem to be duplicates may really be for different small groups within a larger group.

I agree (although I don't think they can change the name after the fact, maybe you can change the phone number?).

But to those that are making multiple ADRs for big groups (either having to get 2 separate reservations for the same place or in cases where you split up), I'd put them under different names just in case. I don't get why it's not done in the first place?

I would REALLY doubt they would cancel ressies already made. Maybe they will say as of xx/xx/xxxx we will no longer take double ressies - if a legitimate ressie needs to be made, call disney dining.

IMO, if they didn't do the above, and they ruined everyone's trips by deleting double ressies, first thing on the 17th is look up any ressie your hunting for and maybe you will find it available...

NO worrys for me, I always cancel when I get the one I want. If everyone did it the proper way you wouldn't have to be pissed if they canceled any of your ADRs

This story is going around but I can't consider it anything but a rumor.

I doubt they will cancel existing ADRs. After all, there is nothing in the Guest Policies about that not being allowed, and most people don't keep checking their ADRs (except us, of course! ;)) What I CAN see them doing is adding something to the "Guest Policies" section regarding canceling duplicate/conflicting reservations for newly made ADRs.

Yes, I agree. When you are the booker for your family, you sometimes have duplicates. I'm in your position.

Well, if he isn't calling everyone who has apparent double bookings, then he isn't finding out WHY, and WHY is more important than "how many". Might want to remind him how to properly figure out if change needs to be implemented. Then again, if he's in Disney IT, I'm not surprised if/that he's going about it in the wrong way, quite frankly...

4 people so far (including me and the one person who might have to do it) on this thread alone who have perfectly legitimate reasons for having what appear to be double bookings...and we're only on the 1st page! D'oh, a bit too late, 2nd page. :)

I don't know why it's not done that way by the people who split parties either. Each ressie should be made in the name of a person who is actually attending the meal at that particular restaurant.

There have been posts from people who believe that if you are booking 180 + 10 and using your resort reservation to justify the 180 + 10 booking that all the reservations have to be in your name. I don't know if that's actually the case. I don't think Disney cares whose name and phone number is on them. Once I made a reservation online in my mother's name, although it wasn't 180 + 10.

As someone who has yet to make an ADR for WDW I wasn't sure if you put in your reservation number if it would automatically pull up the lead person's name and phone number. I can't imagine not being able to use someone else on the reservation's name if your party is splitting since they have everyone's name attached to the reservation already. :confused3

However I can see where some may not think to put them under different names (not knowing there could be issues). I did this in DLR when I booked our group of 20, and one meal the boys did ESPN Zone while the girls went to Ariel's Grotto. The CM on the phone just put everything in my name automatically, and it was only when I had to confirm a change in AG's ressie that a different CM questioned my two bookings for the same time.

I don't mind splitting reservations, but my name is the lead on the reservation, and it's ALL together. There's 8 of us staying at SSR in the same villa. No one else has a separate confirmation number, so if I want to make an ADR for the 3rd day of the trip (as is the case-most likely) I have to use my confirmation number because of the 180+10. If I have 2 ADRs under that number, even if it's different names, I don't want to take the chance of 1 being deleted. ESPECIALLY since I'm trying for CRT and the other is Le Cellier.....
