Dumb Question - Why Does My Car Have A USB Port

Not all MP3 players are iPods and if a manufacturer were to include only an ipod connector it would certainly upset folks who use their non-apple smartphones or other non-apple branded mp3 players/devices. Also - ipod shuffles do not utilize the same connection jack as other ipods -they run thru the headphone jack.

I have and iPod port and and USB port I don't use the iPod one but use the USB port to charge and listen to music from my android phone. I also have built in GPS so that is how we update the maps. We actually have 2 USB port in the care so both my husband and I can charge our phones from it.

I have a simple MP3 player which uses a USB port & cable.

OP, just because you don't have a gadget now that can be plugged into the USB port, doesn't mean you won't have something in the future.

When I bought my laptop, I got a build your own HP model, in which I could decide on my own add ons. For $10, I could get it wired with Bluetooth. I didn't have anything Bluetooth, but it sounded like a good thing to get. The salesman at Office Depot talked me out of getting the Bluetooth, saying not very many items use it.

Several hours later, I went back and had the Bluetooth added on it anyways. I'm glad I did. Two years later, I ended up with a Tracfone cellphone which didn't have any port to plug in a USB cable to download pictures I took with it. But, it did have Bluetooth in which I could transfer pictures. So I was good to go.

USB is the wave of the future. We don't know what will be created.

I just got a new Sonata. The IPOD adapter cable didn't come with it, I had to buy it, it was $29. I haven't tried it yet but it will allow me to listen to my IPOD through my radio.

That would be the same cable you use to hook your ipod us to your computer and you can get it for much less than $29 less than $5.

I have a USB port in my car which I use to transfer music files to the hard drive (yes, my car also a hard drive)

Mine too! New Cadillac CTS-V. It has a fabulous Bose 5.1 system. You can rip CDs or load through the USB port. I'm putting my entire music collection on my car!
