Dumb Question---what's special at DL/CA for the 50th.

What's going on right now that makes it commemorative?

In DCA, they opened the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. They are also hosting the Block Party parade (great for Pixar/disney fans and very active little kids). In both parks, you'll find large photomosaics of Disney characters made up for GUEST PICTURES! In DL, you'll find an AMAZING fireworks show (that I highly recommend seeing from Main Street), and a great new parade! The castle has also been dressed up and given an overhaul for the occasion. You'll find some gilded ride cars outside of some original attractions, and it's fun to find all the "50 Mickeys" around the park. Everything has gotten some spit and polish and Buzz Lightyears Astro Blasters has been added to Tomorrowland. Also, Space Mountain is re-opening after 2 years of down time.

In DCA they have the block party (which is a very high energy parade) and all of the official 50th anniversery merchandise. In DL on many of the older rides they have one gold car that you can ride on. However, you have to get lucky because everyone runs for the gold cars. They also have the gold cars out in front of some of the rides so that you can get your picture taken on them. The fireworks and the parades are a lot of fun and are a pleasent end to a day at DL. I believe they repainted almost all of the rides, including the castle and painted Small World to the oringinal color that is was when it opened. There is also a movie that shows the first 50 years of Disney hosted by Steve Martin, who got his start with Disney when he was a boy working in the magic store on Main Street. It is a good show especially if it is hot outside and you need a air conditioned break.

Looks like we will be in your neighborhood November 21 - November 24 - DD has a soccer game in San Diego over Thanksgiving so we will be heading to DL for a few days before that (woo hoo).... I definitely feel like a fish out of water when it comes to Disneyland
