OK, I know I will be going back SOMEDAY, I just can't say when. Hopefully sometime in 06. I was thinking of saving up for tickets and buying them as I have the money. I know, I have to really think about the length of stay issue, but what I need to know is- if I did buy tickets say this year and didn't use them until, God forbid, 1/07, would they still be good? I am also reading up on the ING accounts, but there are a lot of pages to read over on that thread.

I would just love to be able to say to d/h when an unexpected lull in his Army schedule comes up... lets go to WDW, I already have the tickets! That would be just awesome.

Thanks oh wise Disney vets!

As long as you BUY the NON-EXPIRATION feature on the new tickets, they will be good forever. However, if you don't they are good 14 days from the first day you use them - hey, I guess you don't have to buy the NON-EXPIRATION feature since you won't use any days so yes, they are good forever.

Since I don't have a WDW trip planned until possibly Holiday 2006, and I'll probably purchase an AP at that time, I haven't paid a lot of attention to the new ticket structure.

I'm thinking (and be sure to have it confirmed by someone who has actually paid attention!) that as long as you purchase tickets with no expiration date, you will be okay.

The biggest thing would be the small print caveat that the tickets are valid only in the WDW parks that exist at the time the tickets are purchased. So if the parks are MK, EPCOT, Disney-MGM and AK at the time you purchase your ticket(s) and a new park opens at WDW, they would be valid only at those four parks, even if others were to open before your visit.

Realistically, not too many worries! :)

You can buy expiring tickets now and decide whether you want non-expiration shortly before you are ready to come back home from your vacation (but within 14 days of first usage).

However the cost of adding non-expiration could change.

How I figure the per day cost of non-expiration -- Each leftover park day needs two points, each leftover plus option needs one point IMHO. The price of non-expiration depends on the days originally on the pass, not how many points you need. So for a 7 day pass with one day and two plusses remaining, you need 4 points and need to pay $59. Non-expiration adds $30. to the cost of the park day and $15. to the cost of each of the plusses. Note that the original cost of the seventh day was $3. since that is the difference between the cost of a 7 day pass over a 6 day pass.

Ok, so I could buy the tickets, say 10 day tickets, and then plan a trip for 6 days, and add the non expiration feature even after they have been purchased? And I could have that done while we are at WDW? Wow, I am not worthy of your vast knowledge! :worship:

It's not a dumb question at all! Yes, you can buy them now and not buy the no expiration feature because they don't expire until 14 days after their first use . You'll beat out any price increase on the tickets by buying now, but it is possible the no expiration feature will go up by then. If you do add on the no expiration while you are there, you pay for the length of the ticket and not how many days you have left on it.

Got it. Now, where exactly would you go, to add the no expiration on your tickets, the front desk of your hotel? (Of course we would be staying on property) This is a wonderful strategy to save against future rate hikes on tickets and a great way to convince my husband to take a future trip. Once I have this last question answered I am thinking it is all systems go! As the added bonus, I can buy the tickets through MWR on base here at least saving sales tax as well. I am not sure what their new prices are on the MYW tickets. Thanks everyone!!!!!

That's not a dumb question at all. I am doing the same thing. As I have the money I buy tickets and disney dollars. That way when our trip comes we don't have to dish out all the money at once.

when i was in law school i did the same things as i was dirt poor -not far from being dirt poor now-lol but i would do what i called tickets in moderation, i brought 1 every other month, it was a great system, i still do it that way, we are not back until 12/06 three of us doing mk/ seaworld, ioa/ universal/ dinner shows, bush gardens/ so as you can see 1 ticket every other month works out great for my budget, good luck enjoy and have fun, it does not matter when you go, these boards can save you alot of money including showing you where to go to get discount tickets

My daughter and I are going in March for three nights and will use leftover park hoppers.

My family of five won't be back til 06 - I know I am definitely going back (especially since we own DVC). I have just ordered two 10 day MYW premium tickets (w/hopping, no expiry and plusses) and hopefully sometime this year again I will order two or three more this way I will have them for our 06 trip. I know we can get two trips out of them.

Thanks everyone, I just want to double check- I get the non expiration feature added on at the front desk? No one confirmed my guess. Have a wonderful weekend!

You would probably need to do this @ the Guest Services booth at whichever park you are visiting.

You can do it at the Guest Relations desk at the resort, or at Guest Relations or any ticket window at the 4 theme parks.

Just be forewarned, the price to add on the "non-expiration" to that 10 day ticket would be $100 each, even if you've already used those 6 days. To add it on to a 7-day pass would be $55, 6-day $45, 5-day $35.~:)~

Just a bit of advice...since you DH is Army he can qualify for discounted tickets at SOG. So I would get Disney dollars to try and budget for them. I am just not sure if the discount would offset any price increase that happens between the point you could buy your tickets and the time you go(when you could buy the tickets at SOG). I think the ING is another great way to put away money. The other thing I do is on my checking account we can earn reward points for using the debit card as a CC...it comes directly out of my checking account, so no iterest charges, and in 4 months I have already earned enough to get a $120 MC gift card (which I could buy tickets, meals etc with) Do the change thing too...and every other month buy the Disney DOllars with the change. Good luck you have a good plan there!! :sunny:
