I've been looking at threads and I keep reading about free dining. What is that?

I'm amazed at how intense Disney reservations are! Wow! I think it's cool - I haven't been to Disney in a LONG time and my parents never did ressies, we always just went and ate where ever... Now my husband and I decided to take our kids to the Magic Kingdom one day in October while we're visiting friends and I am desperately looking to get into CRT for breakfast or lunch because my 3yo DD and 2yo DS would LOVE it...

Free dining is a promotion that Disney ran to increase attendance right after many schools start and during the peak of hurricane season. If you booked by June 24? for a stay between 8/26 and the end of Sept? you could get the DDP without extra cost. I am not sure of the exact dates, but you get the idea.
