Can you rent mini fridges at FW for the camp ground...? I'm flying down in October and I'm camping if i was driving itd be a diffrent story cause then i could bring my lil one from my dorm room but alas thats not the case I want to curve the cost of eating out every day im already planning on bringing food with me but like to keep soda and water cold with out having to bring a big collapible cooler and such i was also going to do like wegoshop.com and order like sandwich meat and cheeses and things.....

If you cant rent a mini fridge does the trading post sell like styrophome coolers? I know the cost of buying ice is pretty expensive but you got to do what you got to do i suppose....

Thanks! :flower:

Unfortunately, no the campground doesn't rent mini-fridges. Even if they did, it would be $10 a day + tax. You "might" come out ahead by getting a one-way 24 hour rental car from National or Alamo (pick up at airport and return at Dolphin or Car Care Center), then running by Wal-Mart SuperCenter yourself and buying a mini-fridge (about $55 - $65) and the food you need.

You just have to cost out everything and see what you think.

Your least expensive bet may be to bring the collapsible cooler, bring about 6 of those refreezable ice blocks, ($1 each at the Dollar Store) and swap them out each day at either Outpost Guest Services or the Meadows Trading Post. One of those places should have a freezer where they can keep three of the blocks freezing for you (mark with your name and site #) and you have 3 of them in your cooler.

Another solution if you have the time, is to wander over to Wilderness Lodge by way of the path each evening and fill your cooler with their ice machines.

Unfortunately im to young to rent a car.... ive been wondering about using wegoshop.com but im trying to figure out if doing this is really worth it since all i really want to do is get some basic stuff that they sell rather expensively at the trading post... (milk eggs bread charcoal etc)

How are you getting from the airport to FW? Since you didn't mention a towncar with a free 30 min grocery stop, I will guess you are probably using the new FREE disney transportation services???

I really don't think that the grocery prices at the trading posts are that high considering how long it takes to leave FW and drive off site to get what few items you need. We use to go off site to pick up things here and there that we forgot but it takes about 2 hours so we just pay about 50 cents extra per item and get it on site and save ourselves the trouble.

Get a GOOD soft sided cooler. I REALLY like the idea of meandering over for Wilderness Lodge for some ice each evening/morning ($2 per bag at FW!) or the freezable blocks (I didn't know they would do that for you!) and if you don't have space in your luggage then ship a box of non-perishables to the Fort ahead of time (sodas, crackers, pringles, etc), get a re-useable brita-filtered water bottle for your water drinking.

How long will you be staying? Other things to consider: charcoal, cooking utensils, paper towels, dishes (go paper!), ziplock bags, clothes line, towels

Yeah I was planning on taking the new disney transport, I was hoping that the trading post sold charcoal and matches since that would be difficult to pack and fly.. I'll be there for 6 nights the party im going with we are doing a grand gatherings and getting the dinning option with our tickets so I really only need to do like breakfasts and snacks and stuff when im back at the camp site (we have a few lil ones going to disney so I was planning on spending some time at FW while they are taking naps or hanging around thier resort) I figure if I max myself out on weight and space with my luggage I can sneak a third piece of lugage with one of the members of the party...My only concern with going over to WL is how to get it back to my camp site I do have my little lunch bag (it fits a 6 pack of soda) I figure that should be a decent size for ice... but is there a direct bus from FW to WL? or is this going to be a round about trip? (FW to TTC to WL and back?)

Actually, if you have the dining plan you will not want to eat much....certainly not enough to mess with a trip to the grocery etc....you could easily just pack a box or duffle with what you might want for breakfast and a few drinks/snack items,

Last spring we flew in with a group that had packed in an igloo cooler and then checked it on the plane (secured with tape and bungie cords)...that and a $2 bag of ice ought to last 2 days.

You will have a huge lunch and dinner on the dining plan plus a drink or snack so if you take some quick breakfast items and drinks etc you should be good to go.

I'm not so sure that bringing your cooler over to the Wilderness Lodge to get some free ice is such a good idea. I would say that the exercise path has got to be close to a mile long. That is a long way to go just to save $2.00. Not to mention what would happen if everyone from the Ft. tried to do the same thing. Ditto asking the trading post to freeze your reusable ice blocks. I would love to do that myself, but I really don't think it is reasonable to expect the cast members to allow this. Go ahead and buy the ice. It really isn't going to cost you that much over the course of a few days.

Well since you are getting a dining plan you'll have it easy!

I still suggest send a package ahead of time with soda (if you can't live without!) and some non-perishables. OR, you can pack b'fast items like poptarts, special k bars, etc in your suit case. Snacks can be the individual wrapped packages and put in a plastic shoe box and put in your suit case. I just shipped a very heavy package to the middle east and it cost me about $12 priority mail so I guess you can ship early and get a cheap rate for some slow shipping.

Our favorite snack items are the individual pringles, cheese/crackers, cheezits, goldfish, cookies, slim jims, rice krispies. I'm sure you can come up with some things and I doubt you'll need to grill since you have the dining pkg.

We Go Shop is a great deal and convenient!! They can even get you styrofoam coolers from the grocery store.
