Just got passports and kids are 5 and 3. What do you do in the place for their signature. 5 yo can write her name in print but not cursive...3yo can't. What do you put there? Minor? Or just leave it blank? I'd hate to screw up the formal document.

I received mine earlier this year for my 4 & 5 year old. I called the passport agency and they had me sign the child's name first and then sign my name after it and write my relationship to them in parantheses.

Right from the US Dept of State:
My child is too young to sign his/her own passport. How do I sign my child's passport?

In the space provided for the signature, the mother or father must print the child's name and sign their own name. Then, in parenthesis by the parent's name, write the word (mother) or (father) so we know who signed for the child.

How much were the passports? We have to get them for our '06 cruise. Also, can you pick up the applications at the post office or do you have to go to the county courthouse?

Many thanks!

We just got passports for myself and my DD8 .. I believe the costs was approx. 98 each. I had to pay the library for processing them and also the US for the passport. you can get the docs at the post office, the library or online. It was pretty easy to do. Some post offices and libraries will take the picture for you also (aditional cost).

Hope this helps

I have another question to add to this thread. Do you make color copies of your passports? If so do you take the copies with you and keep them seperate from the original? In case they get lost. Or do you keep the copies at home in a safe place? Just wondering. I have heard of people making copies. Just not sure what they do with them.
Thanks

I made B&W and gave one copy to someone at home and took a copy with us just in case we needed quick replacement.

So what if your child is old enough to write his/her name ... but not in cursive? ie. my 7 year old can certainly write his name - so should he do it?

I would follow the child is too young to sign passport suggestion...
