Dumb Grilled Cheese Question

I cook mine on my griddle. My obsession and the only way I will eat a grilled cheese sandwich is if you put jelly or jam on top of it and let it melt.

i always use a small skillet for my grilled cheese. I don't like dragging out my big stuff just for that. I keep the heat on medium for each sandwich. I've never had a problem with the sandwich burning before the cheese melts.

My DH and I make grilled cheese totally different. His mom taught him to spread mayo (always Hellmann's in this house) on each piece. He thought buttering the pan was weird.

I add bacon to my grilled cheese when I have it. One of our favorite things with the leftovers from Honeybaked ham is ham slices in our grilled cheese.

I take the frying pan, run it in cold water, wipe it clean and then make the second one.

Bingo!! You beat me to it!! I use a frying pan that will fit two sandwiches. I take the done ones out, run the frying pan under cold water for a minute, swab it out with a paper towel, and start again. Works like a charm...

DH puts the bread in the toaster, when it pops up he then adds the cheese than puts it in the Microwave. He likes this for ham & cheese also it does work great & fast no pan to clean. We do not have cheese very often anymore but we used to.

I use an electric griddle if I have more than 2 to make......which around this house is ALL the time! I also like bacon/tomato or ham in there. It's also good with a hamburger patty.....instant patty melt for cheaters.

I had a friend that would butter BOTH sides of the bread and when it was melted on one side, flip it and then put the cheese in. Sounded way too fattening with the extra butter to me.....of course, I don't think grilled cheese sandwiches could be considered diet food anyway.

Sometimes we add taco sauce, it gives it a spicy kick!

BTW I cook mine on my built-in stove top griddle. We have a really big stove, was here with the house, and is old, but works great. Also good for french toast.

Nothing better than an ooey grilled cheese samwich. I like to dip mine in warm ketchup. :cloud9:

I just use the George Foreman for my grilled cheese. I butter the outside of the bread and sometimes I add ham or tomato to it. Occasionally both. They're so easy and yummy :thumbsup2

That sounds really good!

I didn't realize there were so many "recipes" for grilled cheese!

This is making me hungry. Gotta go!

double griddle

You really need one of these double griddles! We use ours all the time!

Do you cook on gas or electric? I have been wanting to get one of those and a grill pan, I have a gas stove.

Sorry for the hi jak!

Gas stove here too! I would never have an electric stove. Not ever. This heats up really, really nice, so the even in the middle of the griddle, i.e. between the two burners, there aren't "cool spots" in the griddle.

I resorted to rinsing out the pan between sandwiches...because mine *hated* the black stuff and wouldn't eat it otherwise.

DH got me an electric griddle recently for our anniversary/Mother's Day/birthday and problem solved! I can now make 6 grilled cheeses at once and I am never so happy!!! I had been wanting one for years but just made do.

The only downside is the kids ask for grilled cheese just about every night now. :rotfl:
