If anyone has any ideas please let me know...lol!

We moved into our new house this month, got brand new washer and dryer from Aaron's rented. We have well water, but have a softner on the outside. Washing my clothes same way I always have, I don't really sort unless we get new things. Using same laundry soap as always. Washing on cold water, normal cycle.

Well pulled out the clothes a few times this week and there have been blue/grey stains on them. Some spots look almost like tie dye. It is very fustrating because this has never happened before. Clothes that are dark in the load are things we've had for years, so why run all of a sudden? Can hard water make clothes run?!?

All of the girls clothes are stained now, and some of ours. I am dumb founded. Tried bleaching out washer this morning incase something was in there... we'll see.

Any ideas?

The washer is brand new? Are you sure? We had a similar problem but our stains looked like rust stains. It wasn't rust at all but the softener (top loader) container was clogged and the stains were actually a combination of dirt/liquid softener. It does not come out. This explanation was all per the salesperson for our new machine. I have a front loader now and this can not get clogged. We used to take apart the softener "thing" and clean it out but couldn't get way down deep into the long tube. Apparently it was clogged down there. We haven't had any trouble since we bought our new washer. Good luck, I know it is frustrating.

I would tell the rental place you want a different washer. Try rubbing the stains with brown laundry soap - Fels Naptha -- usually all dusty on the bottom shelf of the laundry section. Then soak it in water overnight. I usually can get every stain out this way. That is a bummer.

I use to have that problem when I didn't sort my clothes. I also run into that problem when I washed darks before my reds or whites. Now I wash my darks last and always always always sort my clothes now.

you obviously have a monster living in your basment

We had a strange issue like this and it turned out to be the hot water heater and not my washer.

Once DH hooked up my washer wrong when we moved, with the hot water going to the cold place and vice versa. I was lucky enough to catch it before I washed any laundry, as I put my hand in as it was filling for a cold/cold cycle and burned myself, but I imagine that's what would have happened if I hadn't caught it. Try feeling the water at different points in the wash and seeing what happens. Even if the water lines are hooked up correctly, sometimes machines break and do funny things. It's possible for them to rinse your clothes in hot water rather than cold.

The stains sound like the way iron reacts to bleach.
When my ds was a baby, his formula had iron in it. I tried
to bleach his clothes and they all got dark grey/blue stains
where the formula had been. A friend told me what it was.
Check your well water for iron!
good luck

I never heard of "not" sorting clothes for the laundry..

C.Ann ....I very rarely ever sort my clothes. If I have a new pair of jeans or something new that is dark I will wash it with other dark clothes the first time but most of my clothes I throw into the wash all in one or two loads. DH washes all his own clothes and he does seperate.

Most of the things I wash are work clothes (scrubs) and an occasional pair of shorts or a T-Shirt. I wear scrubs to work 5 days a week and keep them on until I get ready for bed.

I just cant get over the waste of water on doing 5 loads on stuff that could fit into 1 or 2 loads.

For the OP...could you go buy a washer and dryer in a regular store instead of a rent to own store?? I would never trust the things that are in the rental store and you end up paying sometimes 3 times the value in the end.I have heard of things that are rented as brand new when actually they had been used for a short time but were not paid for and re-possesed but then rented again a "new".

If it is not the washer what the others said about the iron sounds like a good possibility.

Are you using liquid soap?? Blue possibly?? This happened with me when I was using Tide liquid. For some reason it sometimes would set into the clothes instead of dissolving. Thats the only guess Ican give.
