Duh - I didn't realize.....

We booked a room at HHI for beginning week in April. I didn't realize that the ocean water would still be cold. (I know - dumb moment!!) Does anyone have experience with this time of the year? How is the weather and is it warm enough to at least swim in the pool? I know they are heated but how warm will it be getting out - lol!

Most of the people in my hometown head to Myrtle Beach the third week of April. Every once in a while they get an 80 degree day. It usually stays in the low 70's there though. I always watch the weather from my room at WDW that week and wonder why all of those people who live in the snowbelt don't go just a little further south where it's warmer! Maybe though, some people don't seek the 80 to 90 degrees I desperately need after a long cold winter!

We'll probably be there the same time you are -- I think most of Atlanta has the same spring break. We have been there the first week of April for the past several years. We have had temps in the 80s, when sitting at the pool was fantastic. We have also had temps in the 40s (yes, during the day!) when it was not-so-fantastic.

In other words, you take your chances -- just like you do in Atlanta at that time of year. But, even when it hasn't been swimming weather, we've always had a great time!! Kids don't usually mind the colder temps when getting out of the pool -- in fact they're glad to do it to go down the slide!

That WAS a rarity -- but so was the time it was in the 80's in early April...

How old are your kids? There are a lot of other activities they may enjoy just in case swimming is not in the picture!

The ocean will be a brisk dip with lots of laughs and shouting. However, especially if the air temperature happens to cooperated, the heated pool will be fine. Just don't think of an April trip as being completely centered around swimming, and you'll do fine.

Our kids are 7, 5, 2. I know they will have fun no matter what. I kind of had it in my head that swimming would be a major and fun part of the trip. That is why we are skipping WDW after all - to do something different and enjoy the beach. So that is why I am wondering if I did the right thing for our family. I don't want it to be "cold" as if we never left home - lol! We want:

Another point is that even though it's too cold to SWIM in the ocean, it's usually nice enough to play around the water's edge, get your feet wet, make sand castles and lie out. So don't lose hope, you will have a good time...

Every Sunday nite Jersey flushes everything it collected during the week. That warm water burst hits the beaches of HH approx Tuesday morning around 6. Plan your beach day to coincide with our flushing schedule and you'll be fine.

Did you consider Vero Beach? You would have the same type of stay, beach, DVC, etc., but it would be warmer being further south. Is this something you could change if you wanted to?

We are going to the beach that same weekend (yep - most of Atlanta is on spring break) and I am hoping for good weather. We went last year in October and getting IN the water was rough - but once in, we had a blast!!! You will be fine! Maybe a bit chilly, but you are on vacation and with your family, there will be plenty to do.

We'll be at Vero that week (Atlanta here too!). While I love the HH area, I just didn't want to take any chances with the weather.

I'd love to go to HH in the early fall sometime...seems like it would be perfect. I've done it in July...a wee bit humid for me!

Before readiing the above I would have said you might be able to swim.

Seriously, I have made many April trips to Myrtle Beach. Some years are better than others. The water is usually 70-72 degrees f. In CT that's about all we get in Long Island Sound in the summer, so some of the CT people will swim. The locals will have winter coats on, and the water is full of Canadians.
