Duffy - 20th anniversary bear

Is there no 20th outfit for the regular Duffy then? I love the preclothed one, but I want one that'll let me change outfits too. Curse you Disney and your money spinning ways!

I feel a bit terrible saying that, I know Duffy is a bit of a ploy, but he DOES look kind of cute and the outfits are pretty nice D: - help me fellow Dis fans!

The Mickey sorcerer outfit is quite cute but I love the sailor one - hoping they still have those ones about!

Thanks for posting the pic Carrie :thumbsup2.

Didn't see any 20th outfit separate unfortunately so I think you are going to crack for this dressed one :goodvibes

The sailor one was outside the store so fingers x'd you'll be in luck :goodvibes

We've got the sailor one and think the sorceror will be picked up next visit, thanks for posting Carrie! I was totally anti duffy but he's just too darn cute :goodvibes

Anyone know how Duffy compares in size to the Build a Bear animals? I've been thinking about taking DS to Build a Bear for his birthday and am wondering if Duffy's outfits would fit whatever toy we got from there.

I've tested two bears and both look very cute in Duffy outfits. They match like a glove.

That's brilliant thanks Vala! Must admit that I'm tempted to get a Sorcerer's Apprentice outfit for my Hello Kitty :rolleyes1:

I don’t quite understand the “money spinner” tag so frequently applied in discussions about Duffy – doesn’t that apply to all merchandising? ;) Think princess dresses for instance. I also seem to remember reading somewhere that Cars 2 was only brought out because the original movie had one of the highest associated merchandising sales. Doesn’t merchandising often make greater profits for films than box-office and DVD sales? I believe Up was a particular failure in this respect as an elderly man as principal character does not easily translate to sales of soft toys or lunch boxes for instance. On the other hand, Mickey and Minnie have sold in countless outfits over the years. Presumably this is Marketing’s job, to produce merchandise that will sell and preferably lead to follow-on sales and I don’t really see any difference in producing a range of outfits for a character, even if he has been created specifically for the purpose.

Personally I would love a limited edition 20th Anniversary Mickey’s sorcerer outfit for Duffy in the way little princesses can purchase Minnie’s gorgeous dress. :wizard:

I think (and I have no real feelings either way about Duffy the bear) its Duffy himself thats seen as "just a marketing ploy" in that he doesn't, for some, fit the Disney park mould. He isn't a character from a movie or a cartoon, and I had never heard of him at all until other forum members started talking about him and his toy bears. I still have no real interest in his "story" and Duffy won't be coming home with us (DD has her eye on a cuddly Jack Skellington this time).

Having said that I'm ambivalent to Duffy at DLP, I did have a bit of grrrr moment when I saw him on the final float in the new daily parade - but I'll try not to let it get to me when I'm there ;).

Hmm… I think I see, although I still think a lot of future marketing potential goes into the development of all new characters created for films. Perhaps people would have been happier if a new film featuring Duffy with Mickey had come out first? Maybe I am just gullible! There are many characters that are greater favourites in our household but it is fun to have one that can be changed through the outfits. DS adores looking at the stunning shop window displays and is always particularly amused by characters dressed as one another – Pluto dressed as Woody – that sort of thing. We have Mickey in a variety of different guises, as Peter Pan from our visit last month, and I would love a standard Mickey and Minnie that we could buy the different costumes for, so for us Duffy is the next best thing. We have Duffy’s Woody and Buzz costumes and I hope further character costumes follow. pixiedust:
