Dues Terminology

I'm just starting to look at DVC resale contracts and had a question about terminology. If I'm looking a Sept UY contract, are the 2017 dues the ones paid in Jan 2017 or the ones that will be paid in Jan 2018? Thanks!

Paid in Jan 2017- but if there are still unused 2017 points on the contract the seller may ask that you basically reimburse them for paying them earlier in the year (this is normally negotiable)

2017 dues are those paid in January 2017. Dues are assessed & paid by calendar year, not by UY.

Under normal circumstances, it would be typical at this time of year to not pay maintenance fees for the 2017 UY points. With that said, with the resale market being as hot as it is right now, it will be harder to negotiate that.
