Dues Available For Payment On The Member Website

Will I be able to stay without my dues being paid until February 1? We are traveling Jan 24-30 and want to use any left over gift cards towards payment.

Yes, for sure.
I wanted to open a bank account in the US to pay my dues (I live in London) but I was booked during January. No problem to wait until I came back to pay the dues. Dues arenot considered late until mid February.

I have $40/paycheck direct deposited into an online account. I use that to buy discounted Target/Disney gift cards throughout the year. When the MF amount is official, I check to see if I have leftovers and I roll it over to the next year to cover any excessive increase.

This year, due to some great deals, I was able to save quite a bit on the gift cards. I found that I have $175 left over! So, I took advantage of the Target deal yesterday. I paid $171 for a $190 Target gift card. This morning, I used it to buy $200 in Disney gift cards to use towards my 2017 dues. We own 150 points (100 AKV and 50 HHI) so we are still under $1K/year. I'm so excited to have about 20% of my 2017 dues already covered!

In case anyone is wondering, I was able to use my Disney Vacation Account to pay my dues. Just tell them you are paying with a giftcard.

I heard that you can pay with the DVA but what is the advantage of doing that if paying for dues will not qualify you towards the $20 bonus?

The DVA allows you to aggregate Disney gift cards. So, throughout the year, if you can get Disney gift cards for less than face value and you put them in your DVA and pay dues with them, it's equivalent to paying your dues at a discount.

But you can now combine gift cards themselves.

Yes, you can. As mentioned they are not considered late until mid February.

Agreed. Now that the DVA isn't the only way to combine cards it isn't necessarily going to help any more than using the website to combine GCs instead. And combining GCs does not have the same rules and restrictions that the DVA does and will likely be the best route for most people.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Now, if there was a chance we could earn the extra $20 per $1,000 then I would use it for my dues. I opened a DVA Last spring and have used it for tickets, but that's it so far.

There is a chance, so that's how I'll continue to pay dues. I got the bonus last year. The cards have to be entered manually whether you are combining them or loading to DVA, so it's a no brainer for me. After paying one contract with the DVA this year already, the transaction description is showing as a "purchase", which is exactly what it shows for a qualifying ticket purchase and also what it showed last year. I'm not out anything if I don't get it this year, but at least on the surface, I'm not seeing any changes.

Great, thanks for letting me know. I will try it too. :)

boy guess no ones does the old fashion way - DVC automatically takes it out of my bank account monthly.

so guess going with a DVA account and using gift cards is a better way - takes longer - but hey you are saving money.

I did pay monthly for the first 16 years of my DVC membership. I would have again except for the gift card deal my grocery store had. The final piece of my plan came through this morning - 50,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards points. I bought the gift cards with my new Southwest Visa with the deal for 50,000 RR points if you spent $2,000 in the first 3 months. Got a free tank of gas last weekend with the fuel perks and still have some left.

Nope - that's how I do it. I like getting points, but actually I prefer the monthly payment.

I assume if I'm already set up for that in 2015, they'll just keep doing it in 2016, right??

I wouldn't consider paying monthly to be the "old fashion way." Paying for anything monthly hides the true cost. That's why car salesmen try to work with you to find the right monthly payment, rather than actually negotiating the price of the car.

I don't really get that. I suppose it hides the true cost for someone that doesn't pay attention, but I am completely aware of the cost in my annual/monthly budget. I just figured since they don't charge interest to pay the dues over a period of 12 months, why not take advantage versus having yet another December/January bill.

That is a good point about the interest. With the various ways to get discounts or rebates (credit card rewards), I can easily overcome the value of that benefit, but many people probably wouldn't bother. But the timing can help at tax time. Some years I want to pay in December, and some years I want to pay in January. You don't have control of timing when you pay monthly. But, again, that probably doesn't affect the majority of owners.

I just reviewed my dues on the DVC site and they are not as bad as I thought they would be, however I will probably wait until just before the due date to pay them.
