Anyone have experience with a fair price for duct cleaning? We should have called more places, but my daughter is trying to move into an old house on the farm. Time is critical because she has extra storage and other costs every day we delay.

She booked with the first place she called because they had a $99 special for so many vents and returns. We knew it would go over that, but never dreamed they would show up and try to charge $600. My husband had a recommendation for another company, but didn't call to get bids because the first one was already booked.

I almost sent them away, but because it really needs to be done today, finally agreed to $450. Hope I didn't get snookered.

We live in a 1400 sq.ft. home and had it done over 10yrs. ago and it was about $300-400 then if that helps. Never had it done again after that.

Thanks. That does help. This is about a 1500 sf house, so at least the price wasn't totally out of the ballpark.

They worked three hours. I guess $150 an hour for two men and their equipment is not too bad.

The company does other types of HVAC work, but I won't call them again. Such a big upcharge is not a good way to build business long-term.

I did mine a month or two ago and it was around $450...and only beacuse we were installing a new air handler.

We did it even though I knew that there's no real proof it does anything beneficial. Here what the US EPA has to say about it:
Duct cleaning has never been shown to actually prevent health problems. Neither do studies conclusively demonstrate that particle (e.g., dust) levels in homes increase because of dirty air ducts. This is because much of the dirt in air ducts adheres to duct surfaces and does not necessarily enter the living space.

OP, we did the same thing as you. We called up a place that had put a coupon for $99 in the mail. Apparently that is only for a "maintenance" job. If you haven't had the vents done before, then you need to get the more professional job.

We recently had this done and I think it was around $500. (DH had it done while I was out of town since I am allergic to dust.) He said they spent the whole day at the house and they really did a good job.

My breathing is a little bit better since we had this done. I think we are going to have to remove the carpets next ...

Not only that, but most people have the flex duct -- and there's no way to really clean that anyway, no matter what the cleaning companies who want your money say. All the dust and dirt sticks in all those many grooves of the duct, and any suction or brush action strong enough to get the gunk out would also likely decimate your ducts.

This house had been abandoned for six or seven years. They found about a dozen dead mice in the ducts. In this case, at least, it was mandatory.

They are coming to check the HVAC today and we're trying to book an exterminator.

We had found an old Blackberry phone hidden in one of the ducts...there were rumors that the previous owner had a few lady friends on the side...:rolleyes2

And we also though it was an easy way to find out if my 20 month old son had put any balls in the ducts....we occasionally hear a sound that could be a ball rolling back after being held in place by the moving air....turned out it was probably some mis-installed ducts down by the air handler.

We had duct cleaning which included all of the ducts and anything that runs from our 3 air handlers. Over the 15 years we have owned this house we have had every inch remodeled plus an addition so I really wanted everything cleaned out. Our contractor recommended the technician and he was really thorough- 2 full days. It cost $800.

We did a bit of extensive remodeling and had our ducts cleaned. It was $400 for a 2200 Sq ft house. I did not notice any improvement in the air quality as a result. I did after we had our carpets removed.
