Hi We are planing our first ever trip to Disney(Yay). Anyone have advice on a good portable dual screen DVD player. My DS is 7 and DD is 5. I had a dual screen DVD player that we returned last summer after setting it up because it did not have a battery that could be charged for short trips chords were everywhere and they each had to be removed from the seat back completely in order to put in a movie. I was hoping that one of you would have a good one to recommend.

Thank you,

PS. I am sooo addicted to this board!

Is it much cheaper to get a dual screen than two portable DVD players?

It might be better to get two, if the kids want to watch different things.

I agree with the pp. In my experience it is cheaper to get 2 dvd players instead of a dual one. I just recently purchased two phillips dvd players from walmart and it was cheaper than any dual I have seen. HTH. :goodvibes

Hi
We are looking into getting our daughter a new one b/c hers works when it wants to!!! Do you mind me asking the price of the one you bought and the specifics on it and if you are happy with it?
TIA

We just bought a dual Audiovox at Target. It was just under $200.

There are some wires, but not a crazy amount that it would be unbearable. The nice thing is that you can set them to play the same movie or each screen can play a different movie. It's really, really, really cool and I give it 2 thumbs up!

I researched a lot before purchasing my sony portable dvd player. In what I have read based on reviews is that there are more problems with dual screens (picture quality, sound quality, etc) Thats why I went with the single screen. I plan to buy another when my youngest gets a little older. I went with Sony because of the very positive reviews.

We found iPod covers made for toddlers at www.ifrogz.com. The "tadpole" set comes with a rubber cover with hand grips and child sized headphones. It also has a screen protector, so it doesn't get scratched. My husband has an iPod, and I borrowed one and we loaded a bunch of Disney and Thomas videos. They were great!! If you get the iPod (or if you already have one) you can also use it for yourself! ;)

We bought the Insignia 7 inch Dual Screen w/ LCD display from Best Buy. We love it! The picture is incredible, it comes with a pop-up remote, there is volume control on the headphone cord, and easy to change movies and remove from seat.

We have this one, too. It's wonderful! It does have cords, but it's not that bad. We have an Odyssey van and I like to have the kids (DS8 and DD6) one right behind the other and I sit in the other middle seat to help with snacks and video changes and what not. You can set the screens up to both work together (share voltage from one plug AND watch the same movie) or they can be plugged in seperately. ours also comes with remotes and a carrying bag. Wonderfully handy!

I picked up a dual DVD package by RCA from Sam's Club for about $150. It's really two single DVD players that can be configured to work either independently or as master/slave in either direction. No battery pack, but AC adapters (2) and DC adapter (1 double), and hook together with the standard RCA red/white/yellow composite cables. Each has its own (color coded) remote, as well.

When prepping the SUV for the trip, I replaced the included AV cables with longer ones, and ran them underneath the floor mats, leaving any excess length underneath. With active legs back there, I may yet need to duct tape the rest to the car seat, though. :sad2:

I checked out that one at Sam's also, and if we didn't have a player built into the car (and an old portable one) I would spring for it. Great concept and no fights over who gets to watch what!

I bought the Disney dual screen one. I wouldn't recommend it. The volume doesn't go very high and it doesn't always resume where you left off in the movie when the car is turned off and on again. I do like that one of the screens has NO buttons, so the child in that seat can't mess with the movie.

Thank you all for the information. I will definitely be researching these players!
For those of you that buy 2 separate ones, Is there a car charger that splits? I know that we will probably need more time with our 20 hour trip than a battery will last.

Thanks again

We had a dual screen one for a couple of years and when we stopped using it I just got my kids each their own portable dvd player. This way they can watch their own movies and not fight over who wants to watch what

I agree on the Sony. I had gotten oldest DD a Sony one from Sams for Christmas and youngest DD the phillips from Wally. After taking the phillips out of the box I packed it back up and returned it. The battery was too short for our car trips and the Sony was just a better quality so I took and bought youngest DD a sony as well. I did put the extra warranty on them just because I know my kids and the amount of trips we take.

I am now to the point that i must buy one! Just wondering if anyone has any additional input or has bought something recently or found a good deal?

I bought an RCA single dvd player from Target for $99 and it was JUNK! It worked for about 4 days, then the volume would go in and out for one day & then it would not read DVD's at all. It just kept saying disk not valid. Thank goodness Target took it back and gave me a full refund.

target has a dual screen RCA for 99 dollars in the add this week. I have no idea if it is crap or not. Just wanted to pass the word about something cheap

I was eyeing that RCA at Sams too. My kids like to watch different things so we bring a portable player for the oldest, and the car player for the youngest. I also saw on Amazon a dual screen (single player) that was built into a headrest. You replace 2 headrests with these 2 ($399). You may also want to wait and look for a portable blue ray player. It can play regular dvds and blue ray.
