when I stopped at DTD last week, they had a sign posted near the buses- 'if you're headed to a theme park, take the bus to POR,and transfer there.':scared1: WTH? I thought this was discouraged!?! if so,then why a sign directing this? and what about all the folks staying at POR who have extra people at their bus stops....to avoid paying?!?! :scared1:

They don't run direct busses from DTD to any theme park, so they put that sign there to avoid a bunch of people asking questions on how to get to theme parks. They have very similar signs at all the theme parks directing people on how to get to DTD.

But yeah, I can't imagine anyone staying at POR is going to be too excited. And really I'm not sure why they picked that, since you could technically go to any resort and then transfer. The signs at the theme parks for DTD direct guests to ANY resort bus, not a specific one...

Do you think that sign was temporary and perhaps not posted by WDW staff? We didn't see that sign Friday at the DTD bus stop.

If I recall right, at one time there was a sign that said "SSR", then (due to SSR guest complaints I'm pretty sure), they changed it to "POR".

I just thought it was very uncool for the folks staying at the designated 'switch' bus stops..KWIM?

I truly believe that it just isn't all that big an issue. Yes, there are going to be those guests that are at DTD and need to get to a park for an ADR or such. But I doubt there are all that many people parking at DTD and then taking the 'free' bus service to various parks. If saving $15, or so, is worth spending an hour to get somewhere, then have at it.

I've overheard several bus drivers telling guests to take the SSR bus, get off at Congress Park and walk over to DTD.

Disney can't ban the practice so they make it as hard as they can to get to a park from DTD.

Also they still have to let you know how to do it or there would a bunch of people who have a legitimate reason to get to a park from DTD complaining to GS.

The sign to take the bus from DTD to POR to change to the MK bus was there last December. I was also surprised to see it.

Why would Disney not want guests going from the parks to DTD? They have signs posted instructing guests on how to do it and bus drivers give instructions on how to do it as well.

There are a great many complaints on the DVC board from SSR owners who don't like the resort being used as a bus depot for DTD, regarding guests trying to access or leave DTD filling up buses that should be for SSR guests. Of course guests from any resort could argue that their buses are supposed to be for their guests and not for people to shuttle to and from DTD. But they can also argue that the resort monorail is for resort guests and not for those who want to visit the Polynesian just to eat or something.

But Disney wants to encourage guests to stay onsite without cars to make them more captive, and it also wants its guests to get to and from DTD somehow. I've seen that POR sign before, in the morning. No doubt it is meant for early Bibbity Bobbity Boutique customers and those eating breakfast at Wolfgang Puck Express because I don't know what else is open that early.

SSR could require that guests show a resort ID to board the buses. In turn corporate headquarters may agree that Disney Transport should provide a higher level of service with no additional funds flow from SSR to DT to make up for more buses to carry a larger proportion of non-SSR guests boarding the buses there.

On the other hand, if the "cost" to the resort for bus service is based on room count or registered guest count and not on bus trips, and additional buses are dispatched according to demand, then the complaints are unfounded.

I am sure there are many onsite guests who want to go from DTD to a park. When we go in March I have one day marked as sleep in, walk from BWV to DHS and grab a fast pass, lunch at Wofgang Puck at DTD, and then back to DHS. We will probably go back to BWV tomdrop off any purchases, but we also may go straight to the park. To get to DTD we will take a SSR bus from DHS and walk to DTD. This is a legitimate reason to go from DTD to a park.

So SSR should be the only resort to required a resort ID? do you mean for only SSR guests exclusively? That would mean you have to stay there or have a car to eat at the Turf Club (pretty good restaurant by the way)

Gotta say the AKL buses get pretty crowded @ AK closing with a lot of people wanting to know which stop to get off (Kidani or Jambo) to eat @ Bomas. I imagine any resort with a popular restaurant has extra people riding the buses from a park to that resort for dinner. The monorails @ closing of MK can be a nightmare for people staying @ the GF or the Poly because of day visitors using the resort loop to go to the TTC. For someone like me who flies into WDW and doesn't rent a car it makes sense & saves time to transit from DTD to a park via one of the resorts close to DTD.
BTW, can you send purchases to your resort from DTD?

if I go to DTD from a theme park I go to Contemporary if im at MK
one of the epcot resorts if im at Epcot
if at AK or DHS I grab the first bus to a hotel that comes in!

BTW, can you send purchases to your resort from DTD?
You can do that from the stores owned and operated by WDW like the World of Disney or Team Mickey. So if you purchased something at Magnetron in Downtown Disney West Side you can't do it from there since they are not owned and operated by WDW.
