DS's IEP

For all the bad IEPs i've suffered.. this one was awesome. His teacher is downright no holds barred the best dev. dis. teacher i've ever seen.

so - during the iep they're talking about wanting him to learn his switches well enough to get a power chair, about teaching him to say hi etc... with NO prompting.. the change over this year to last is unbelievable.. all the professionals were nodding and saying that they know he's in there (severe spastic cp..), and they are really unlocking him..

so i say.. well er.. we are going to Disney on March 27 and i want him to be able to say hi to mickey.. who is going to teach us how to set all his switches and his computer to do that? BAM - into the iep it goes - !!! ha! i don't have my copy here, but it's something about "get kevin to initiate conversations outside the home and school environment"

We are going to kick butt this march!!! i know that the pooh and tigger at crystal palace we see every year are not the same pooh and tigger... but nonetheless.. if there are any characters that may remember his smiles and his silence... maybe they will get a big surprise too!

Your link worked fine. Very nice picture. Now I'll know who I'm looking for down at WDW. Our stay will overlap yours. I think last year we were only down there one day the same as you. This year we will be at OKW from March 22 thru April 1.

thanks everyone! yeah - i am really floating on air!

SueM - OKW (of course..) Mar 27 to April 6! This gives us a much better chance of rolling into each other. And Kev will hopefully initiate a HI!

If anyone sees us, feel free to say hello. Kevin may be with me, his dad or the famous Uncle Andy... who specializes in a ride called 'Stroller Coaster'.

Stroller Coaster was invented about 5 years ago when Kev was still in his - and if he was antsy - OFF they would go!

Way to go, Sue! I know the whole IEP can be a stressful thing, but isn't it wonderful when we have educational professionals that do everything they can to help our kids? (It really should always be that way, shouldn't it?)

We used Mickey as our motivation for our boys to "walk to Mickey" with their walkers last year (5 year olds with CP). Be sure to tell him "Hi" for all of us on the DIS that won't be there!

And, what a great picture!
