We went to dinner with DS's best friend Monday night. Both boys are 4 1/2 and sat next to each other. They actually didn't really interact much - I don't think they even hugged like they usually do. Anyway, last night his friend woke up with a fever and vomiting and was diagnosed this morning with strep. I think we may be okay but would YOU worry? At what point should we feel safe? They think the friend got it at daycare since another child was diagnosed today from his class.

I wouldn't worry too much. Especially if they were not sharing food. Unfortunatley, there is not much you can do now anyway. I think the incubation time is around 3 days or so. Just keep an eye on him.. but If I were you, I would not change his routine at all. Good luck I hope he stays healthy.:thumbsup2

I wouldn't worry at all. Watch for symptoms. If he starts showing signs of strep or is generally not feeling well, take him to the ped.

My dd had strep without the usual sore throat. She had a slight fever but basically, just didn't feel well. I never would have guessed strep.

Hope he dodged it! :)

I don't think there's much to be done about it now, but yeah, there's a chance your son could have caught it. I'm 31 years old and last month a friend and I went and had our nails done. We didn't share any food or drinks and sat a couple feet apart the whole time, but she got diagnosed with strep the next day and I got it a few days later. I've had strep a lot (more than a dozen times, probably much more) and this time I didn't have any of the usual signs, just didn't feel good. In fact, I thought I might have the flu, but it was strep. Just keep an eye on him and take him in for a throat culture if he starts not feeling well this week.

Worrying about it isn't going to do a bit of good. If he is going to get it you can't do anything to prevent it. When my kids get strep they rarely complain of the sore throat. Their temperment is off and occasionally we have had the rash on the chest. The great thing about strep, for us anyway, is that if diagnosed and on antibiotic for 24hrs, the kids are back to normal in no time. Good luck, I hope you don't have to go through it.

There's no use worrying since nothing can be done. Keep a close eye and if there are any symptoms, go immediately to a doctor (or urgent care) and request a quick strep test. You'll know if it's strep in 5 minutes and can get a Rx. One dose of the meds helps; and a full day of meds will make you feel almost normal.

I can't tell you how many times I've been in that boat this past year! My 6 yr old DD's best friend gets strep CONSTANTLY.... she's had her tonsils out to try to help w/ it, but to no avail :confused3

Anyhow, I've gotten at least 3 phone calls in the past year from DD's BFF"s mom the evening after our girls were together all day/snuggling on the couch watching a movie, playing, etc.... to inform me her DD has a high fever, is vomitting, etc..... then she goes to the pedi with the infamous strep throat diagnosis after the culture....

THANKFULLY my DD never got it  however, one time I did :( :( :(

I wouldn't worry about it unless your son is not feeling well.... then at least you'd know what it might be... (((HUGS)))

I wouldn't worry. My DD is very prone to strep and has it at least 4-5 times per year. Although she's uncomfortable, there's nothing really scary for us. I suppose if your child has a compromoised immune system in some way there would be more concern.

Lord...it must be bouncing all over NC! I had strep, so did DH, but none of my three kids got it...strange... Mine took two rounds of antibiotics...but really, there is nothing you can do but keep and eye out. Good luck!

OP here - DS never got strep but he got something. We went to the mountains Friday and that night he was sniffing and couldnt breath well. Had to go to Walgreens at 11:00 at night to get some medicine. He woke up screaming every hour all night long. We went to an amusement park (Tweetsie Railroad) and he was pretty stuffy all day. Still had a great time though.
