They will be gone for 2 nights and 3 days. They leave in the morning and come back to the school around 3:00 Friday. The school does this each year for the 5th graders because they will be in middle school the following year. Anybody else have Outdoor Education at their schools?

TC:cool:

Yes, my 5th grader will be going to Nature's classroom for 5 days in June. We helped him with fundraising for it for the last few months. My oldest son did it a few years ago and loved it. :D

My DD is going to "Science" Camp next week, she is in 6th grade. They will be going on nature walks, going to the tide pools and other "natural science" things.

we did 6th grade camp that sounds similar...we went for the whole week, learned from naturalists and hiked, a bunch of stuff. I moved to a different town halfway thru 6th grade so got to go twice...my old school did in in the fall, my new one in the spring.

Then my senior year of high school I went as a cabin leader. we had to do a certain number of hours of community service in order to graduate...not only fulfilled all of the hours, but I got a week off of school :)

My son is going on the same thing as your son at the end of May. He is in 6th grade and they go for 4 days. They only stay over night the first night. One of the days during this trip, they are going to the zoo. They also do rock climbing on a rock wall. It sounds like a lot of fun!!!! They call it The 6th Grade Outdoor Adventure.

DS did this in 5th grade also. The 5th graders do it every year and, it's a ton of fun for them. They cook outdoors, hike, all that good stuff. :)

Our school doesn't do this. Part of me is disappointed, but the other part of me is kind of relieved - I'd have to go as a chaperone because of my son's allergies. What a great experience for the kids though!

They go to the National Seashore and stay at an old coast guard station..they study the cape.

No, our big trip is in 7th grade and they go to Space Camp. The outdoor experience shounds like fun!

DD did this in the fall when she started 5th grade

Also they did a couple of days at the end of school - they went to a local park that has a one room school house and had school there - had to dress the part and even pack lunch in napkins

hope the weather is good for them

Our sixth graders go to Nature's Classroom, too. Both of my DSs have gone and loved it :)

At the middle school where I work, the 6th graders go to a woodsy campgrounds, and go for an entire school week. .. Leave Monday morning, return Friday afternoon.

Its teambuilding, outdoor education, canoeing, and other stuff.

Most of the Metro school districts here have "Outdoor Lab" Sixth graders go for week sometime during the school year -I don't think they have sessions in Dec, Jan or Feb (which is silly because everyone knows it only snows in March and April in Colorado). The Kids absolutely love it.

DS will be going to Nature's Classroom in November with his 5th Grade Class . . .They are leaving November 10th and coming back on the 14th . . .He is looking forward to it!

DD did it when she was in 5th Grade and didn't want to come back home.

We have what they call Outdoor Lab in 6th grade and they go for a week in the mountains. Also at my DD middle school they go to San Diego in October for Sea Camp for a week.
