DSLR Users: What Brand Do You Shoot With?

My only question is does everyone only shot one brand? I have a Pentax DSLR, a Canon powershot S3 IS that i use every so often and a Casio Exilim point and shot as well. I also have a Kodak film P&S and Pentax film cameras. So am I the oddball

nope...not an oddball at all!! I have a nikon for dslr, a canon p&s and oly underwater camera. I love them all for different reasons and wouldn't get rid of any

I must agree, I like the DIS Photo Board because it is SO much friendlier (especially to those us that aren't pros) than some of the brand boards.

That being said, I have my gear in my signature so that other shooters know what I shoot and if they have specific questions about my chosen brand or equipment, they can ask me about it. (Even though I don't have the knowledge base of Groucho or take pictures of his quality), I am happy to share with other Pentax shooters anything I can.

I shoot with friends who both happen to own Nikons (D200s, both) and Canon (XSi). They chose their brand for their reasons and I chose Pentax for mine. When we are out, the brand issue never comes up (other than some good natured ribbing, of course! ) We just enjoy getting out and shooting and that is what makes it fun.

As for other brands, I have film SLRs (Pentax), digital P&S (Kodak and Canon) and film P&S (Olympus), so I like to think I am an equal opportunity photographer!

groucho told me about m45 adapters . i think you could use an adapter to use your canon lenses on your nikon if they are decent lenses. the canon one was about $25 so i would imagine the nikon adapter would be a similar price.

(Psst, it's M42, not M45. 42 being the mm size of the threads.) It's all about register distance... there's a list here of the register distance of different systems. (The list exists many places, that was the first one I found handy.) By and large, you can get adapters for lenses that have a longer register distance, but not shorter. The Canon FD (manual focus) lenses have the shortest film SLR distance so they won't really adapt to anything else... the exception being the 4/3rds DSLRs, onto which you can adapt most anything.

The Nikon distance is also pretty long, so there's little you can adapt to theirs... for M42 lenses, you either lose the ability to focus to infinity or you have to get an adapter with a lens in it which will allow infinity focus but probably degrade image quality slightly.

At the end of the day, what this means is that Canon manual-focus lens values are along the lowest since there's so little you can use them with. If you use a film SLR or a 4/3rds DSLR with adapter, you can probably get some nice lenses for quite cheap.
