DSL or Cable

We've had both DSL and Cable, and in our experience, the cable is the better of the two. (As Alex said, though, your experience may vary). We've also had a home network for both DSL and Cable. The biggest issue, I think, with networking is the providers don't want to support one. They *can*, they just don't like to.

We currently have a cable modem (Comcast) and are looking to switch to DSL. We've only had the cable modem since August and have had to have it serviced about 7 or 8 times. It will go down for days at a time and no one can ever seem to figure out exactly what the problem is, but they have admitted the problem is on their end. Also, every time it goes down we have to spend hours on the phone with them before they will send someone to check it out. I think, though, as others have said a lot depends on where you are located.

That's odd. I'm in Bucks county as well (our service office for Comcast is in Sellersville) and the service has been very reliable. We've been a customer for about a year. There may have been one or two times where it was unavailable for a few hours but nothing major.

What part of Bucks are you in?

emmagata,
We are in Lower Bucks. I think our service office is Bensalem. The last technician that was here did a bunch of tests on our computer and hooked up something to the cable modem just to verify that it wasn't our computer (which is new so we didn't think it was) and he said it's definitely on their end. The part that makes it so frustrating is that they don't know why it keeps happening. When it's working it's great, but it's too often that it goes down.

It's not odd at all emmagata, it's normal. One BLOCK can make the difference, let alone a different part of the same county.

Another frustrating day for me with the cable modem at work. It was down or running at a snail's pace the entire day. The only place I can get any work done (and more importantly visit the DIS!) is at home with my DSL.
